"Ghost of Carnegie"

Carnegie Library - Homestead, Pennsylvania

Carnegie Library was one of the major libraries gifted to the city in 1896 by Steel Industry tycoon, Andrew Carnegie.  It was Carnegie's way to make amends after a deadly battle broke out during a strike by the workers in 1892.  The library also contains an athletic center and music hall, and of course, ghosts.  Books are said to fly of shelves and ghostly figures are reported throughout the building.  The apparitions are said to look like former steel workers, dressed in dirty, scraggly clothes.  Disembodies voices are also heard, both male and female.

TAPS co-founders Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes headed to the music hall with their ghost hunting dog Mattie.  They got some high K2 readings on the stage and it seemed to center around Mattie.  She quickly turned her head and snapped at something and then their device went silent.  Apparently Mattie ate the ghost. A door opening in the upper theatre area caught their attention because they were the only ones in the hall.  A very strange noise caught their attention and it really sounded like something screaming out.  It was also heard by the other investigators as well.   The activity seemed to stop so they headed to the locker room of the athletic center and a female laugh came out of nowhere.  They tried to make contact with whatever it was but were not successful.

Amy Bruni, Britt Griffith, and Adam Berry started their investigation in the library to see if they could debunk the multiple reports of books falling off the shelves. They slammed doors and verified the book cases were stable.  Amy and Berry then headed to the music hall where Adam heard something that sounded like a foot stomp in one of the rows of the hall. Nothing seemed to register on his equipment though.

Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves took their turn in the library and set up their "Ion Generator" to help increase energy in the air to help the apparitions manifest themselves.  What got their attention was the laser grid they had set up moved to point at a book about ghosts.  Can't make this stuff up people.

TAPS felt there was paranormal activity going on in the building but believe there was no immediate threat to workers and guests.

Homestead Police Station - Homestead, Pennsylvania

In 1988 this former post office was turned into a police station when crime in the city increased.  Almost as soon as the police force took over the building, they began having paranormal experiences.  Some believe this may be in part to the lost souls of 3 inmates who committed suicide in their cells.  Cell doors are heard opening and closing, building doors slam shut, and shadows and footsteps are reported throughout the building. The station is no longer in full use, except by unsettled spirits.

Jason and Grant were the first to investigate the building.  As they were walking on the main floor they both believed they heard a sound like somebody walking with keys.  They called out "hello?"  The response back "Hello."  At least the ghosts were friendly.  This would be a major part of their evidence.  They worked on debunking the doors slamming.  They checked for drafts and wind tunnels created by the opening and closing of other doors and verified that the old doors did tend to move easily.

Steve, Dave, and Dave's dad Bruce, headed to the jail cells.  They checked the doors to see how easily they could be opened and closed.  The doors were pretty heavy and it's unlikely they would just move themselves because of a draft.  A noise in one of the cells caught their attention.  Dave walked into the cell and found a shotgun casing on the ground.  He picked it up and dropped it again and it made the same sound they all heard.  Did something pick this casing up and drop it to get their attention?

Britt and Adam headed to the basement where a shadow spirit was reported in the boiler room. They called out for something to contact them and what they got in response was a knock on the pipes.  It turns out that when the investigators upstairs slammed on one of the jail cells, it rattles the pipes in the basement.

TAPS did not call the old police station haunted, but could not explain some of their personal experiences that they had while investigating.
