After 16 days of divisions, deceit and power hierarchies, the remaining White, Blue and No Collars are finally one! Welcome back to your favorite Survivor blog, where like Hali I'm all about #Merica in the real world, but as for the world of Survivor, I ain't feeling it.
Last night's episode was the season's best so far, so lets jump straight to the highlights!
The Merge!
You get a buff! You get a buff! Everybody gets a buff! The game has reached the final leg: the individual battle for $1 million. It opens the door for new strategies and alliances, and some are jumping right on it.
At the merge feast, Mike blatantly states Joaquin was voted out because him and Rodney got too close. Too blunt? Probably. It sets the stage for how the rest of the game will play out, and Carolyn was no stranger that:
"Anyone who has a strong bond with one other person is not going to make it," says Carolyn. Definitely an accurate statement and tonight went even further to prove it. Carolyn and Tyler kept their alliance quiet, while the power duos Mike/Kelly and Jenn/Hali lead their respective charges.
In the meantime, Rodney graduated from Survivor 101 and built a side alliance comprised of himself, Kelly, Will and Carolyn. Rodney's stepping up his social game and I can see him going far into the season. He doesn't have the blood on his hands like Mike, he has a strong social game and people will keep him around because they think he's a bigger target than them. You're starting to represent Boston a little better now man. Just keep it up!
Jellyfish Fo Dan
Dan just doesn't have the best luck in the ocean. First he loses his underwear (praise the lord we don't have to see that anymore) and now he gets stung by a jellyfish. However, the only reason this made it on my list is because Shirin was the first one who offered to pee on it. Was it a genuine offer? Yeah, definitely. Was it funny that it's the first thing she said? OF COURSE!
I don't know about you, but I never know what's going to come out of Shirin's mouth and I'm happy she's on this season. Definitely a fan.
#Merica
WHAT IS THIS TRIBE NAME? I'm someone who jokingly says "merica" occasionally, so I don't think it's awful. I also really like the meaning of why they chose it. The great thing about America is that it's a melting pot of No Collars, Blue Collars and White collars. BUT, as a tribe name on Survivor, I ain't feeling it.
First Individual Immunity
Endurance immunity challenges are by far my favorite. I personally like the challenge where the castaways hold their hand above their head, but holding onto a pole is almost as good.
The first to drop are the heavier contestants Dan, then Will, followed by Tyler, Sierra, Kelly, Mike, Rodney, Hali and Jenn. In the end, it's a battle of No Collar vs White Collar, as Joe and Carolyn duke it out.
Ultimately, Joe takes home the first individual immunity of the season and forces the Blue Collars to reconsider who they want out next.
Drops Idol
Back at camp, the lines are drawn! It's Blue Collar on one side and No Collar on the other, with White Collar in the middle...or is it?
The Blue Collars may be dysfunctional, but they're solid and loyal.
The White Collars are divided. Carolyn and Tyler remain a secret power couple, but Shirin solidified a place with the No Collars.
The No Collars are also divided. Joe, Jenn and Hali are a tight threesome, but Will flips and takes Rodney's offer of Rodney, Kelly, Carolyn and Will in the final 4. The class lines are blurred and now we're down to playing good old Survivor.
The strategy award of the episode goes to TYLER. We haven't seen much from him this season, but props when he approached Mike saying, "If you don't loop me in, I'm going to go to people who are looping me in... understand my point of view. I hear that and I'm like awe, really sweet. Then I turn and go alright, who else is offering me something different." Playing strong!
The genius award of the episode goes to JENN for playing her hidden immunity idol at tribal, sending Kelly packing.
Tribal revealed A LOT. Carolyn and Tyler sided with the Blue Collars, while Will did the same, but was left out of the loop and told to vote for Hali. Meanwhile, Shirin sided with the No Collars.
Right now this game is up in the air, but one thing is for certain. Will now finds himself on the bottom of any alliance he can form.
Interested in what Kelly has to say? Keep a look out for my interview with her on how she played the game and what we didn't get to see!
