American Dream Builders: Identical Modulars No More

The format has changed this week from two teams to four teams. The challenge is for each team of two people to take four identical modular homes and transform them in only three days. The winning pair not only gets saved from elimination, they also get a two-page spread in Better Homes & Gardens magazine. Plus, this weeks neighborhood counsel will include the editor-in-chief of Better Homes & Gardens. Due to the fact that Elaine has been a contributing editor for the magazine before, and a few other contestants have been showcased, the counsel will have no idea who designed each home. The homes will eventually be moved to the Ventura Coast KOA campground for families to enjoy.

Since each home is basically a blank slate and straight from the factory, the contestants have to exhibit impressive artistic talents and individual personalities. We see chandeliers on porches, textured wallpaper in a bedroom, picture frame moldings, builders as seamstress, and more than one Park Avenue theme.

Nina and Jay get an initial "Wow!" but the judges are not impressed by their furniture placement. Darren and Elaine get a "Delicious" comment, but Nate dislikes the inconsistent finishes throughout the open floor plan living/kitchen areas. The judges first reaction to Dann and Vanessa's home is an "Oh, my God", although it doesn't sound like an emphatic positive they seem more inspired as they make their way through the house. Lukas and Erinn fail to impress with their curb appeal but use their space well inside and appear to be the judges favorites. This saves them from elimination this week, but they are not the winners of the challenge.

According to Better Homes & Gardens Twitter feed, the winners, Elaine and Darren with their Malibu meets Upper East Side design, will have their home featured in a two-page spread in their June 2014 issue. We still have to say goodbye to someone and this week it is

 SPOILER ALERT

...Vanessa.
