This week's episode of The Bachelorette had everyone reaching for tissues but for a very unique reason. During a one on one date with James in New Jersey, the pair were given a helicopter tour to look at the damage created by Hurricane Sandy. Even months after the storm hit, the devastation is widespread. After the helicopter ride, James and Desiree met a very special couple by the name of Jan and Manny.
Jan and Manny had been married for decades and when Hurricane Sandy hit, they lost everything in their home. Feeling overwhelmed with what they had been through, Des and James decided to give up their date so that the couple could celebrate their recent anniversary. A limo picked them up and brought them to the Foundation Room at the House of Blues for a fancy dinner, while Desiree and James went out for fast food.
On top of the impromptu concert by Darius Rucker, there was one more surprise in store for Jan and Manny. The Red Cross took their wedding album, one of the only things to survive the storm, and refinished the album and photos for them. On a show full of drama, tears, and people trying to one up each other, it was really nice to see such a heartfelt moment between two people who knew how to stand the test of time together.
Here's some other things that happened on this week's episode: Des ditched Brad after an awkward one on one date (though she should've gotten rid of him after that story about the police a few weeks ago), Kasey won a very entertaining Mr. America pageant, and Zack K. seemed bewildered that he was eliminated at the rose ceremony. Like everyone else still left in the running, he really "felt a connection".
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
