Ryan Knight and Jemmye Carroll on The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons

by Gina Scarpa

Exes Knight and Jemmye were reunited this season on The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons, and had a lot to deal with. After betraying her trust, Knight was hoping to win Jemmye over and at the very least, become friends with her again. The two had their disagreements at times in the house, but worked very well together in challenges. This week, they were eliminated after going up against Zach and Sam from the San Diego team but left on better terms than when they came in the door. We talked to them today about their relationship and more in an exclusive interview.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was your reaction when you were asked to do The Challenge this season and that you would be reunited with your New Orleans roommates?
A. Jemmye: We had been waiting to do one and we were ready! We were excited but when we found out it was Battle of the Seasons, that kinda complicate things.
A. Knight: I was excited to go because of the experience of it. Everyone starts talking and you find out it's Battle of the Seasons... I didn't have the best relationship with too many people from that house.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: There were a few couples, who were no longer together, back living together in the same house. What was that like initially for the two of you?
A. Knight: I don't know... I was like, "Alright, maybe this is my chance to make amends and get things right again," but I was nervous. I had to work with her and I knew when it came down to competitions, I knew we had each other's backs. She's an athlete and I'm an athlete. We have the same goal in mind so we were going to work well together. If there was an elimination, it was me and Jemmye, and then Preston and Mckenzie.
A. Jemmye: I think Preston and Mckenzie knew that. I was nervous going into it as well because we weren't on good terms. To go back in the house with your ex, you have to deal with all those feelings. That was really nerve wracking but I thought we worked well on The Challenge together. We usually do not work well together! We've had some not good experiences together.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When it came to your team dynamic, do you feel like things improved or worsened when Preston and Mckenzie were eliminated?
A. Knight: I don't know. We had each other's back right away so it didn't really matter that they were gone but I do feel... and I hate to say this... but I feel like a lot of the dead weight we were carrying were gone. I could've used them in this past challenge though.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Knight, there seems to be two sides to you. You can get really nasty with people like Nany at times, and then you can be supportive or sweet to Jemmye or Eric and Devyn. Why the extremes? Can't we get a happy medium?!
A. Knight: I've never been that happy medium person. I'm either an ass...
A. Jemmye: You're not like that in real life! I don't know if it's the drama of The Challenge but he doesn't act like that in real life. The stuff you did to Nany, you would never do to one of your real girl friends. You don't hang around people you don't like.
A. Knight: It does all add up because you don't have an outlet to escape. Nany was pulling numerous things that led up to me exploding. You can't get in her face and what am I supposed to do? I'll throw her clothes in the pool. Jemmye never should've told her that I did that.
A. Jemmye: You never should've done it!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Jemmye, how do you feel like you've changed since New Orleans?
A. Jemmye: When we filmed New Orleans, I had just turned 21 so of course, I was a lot more wild. I just feel like I did the normal growing up thing that people do.
A. Knight: Man, they could've gotten her a bunch of times acting like a drunk fool and you'd say, "Jemmye, you haven't changed at all!"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Both you and St. Thomas were at a disadvantage going into this week's challenge, "Logged Out". What did they do better in that challenge to keep themselves out of the elimination round?
A. Jemmye: They got lucky to be honest with you, because they picked the right logs!
A. Knight: We accidentally picked up one of the wrong logs and they had the right ones. I give Marie and Robb their props because that was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The elimination challenge seems like such a difficult one, especially for the guys. Knight, can you describe what it was like?
A. Knight: We were hanging upside down for like, an hour. The blood rushes to your head. You're trying not to use up all your energy, you're trying to hold your breath underwater but you can't because the blood is rushing to your head. She's telling me to go down and you have to do the opposite of what she's saying. You have to tell yourself to slow down, breathe, hold your breath. The hardest thing was that I'd use all my breath trying to pull myself down. Me and Zach couldn't even get to the bottom of it. We were like, "This is ridiculous!" It was a lot harder than I thought.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's the status of your relationship now and what are you both up to?
A. Jemmye: I think that we just got to the point when we can talk. I was just in Israel and we talked when I was there. I think we can honestly be friends. It literally happened two or three weeks ago.
A. Knight: I got a new girlfriend! Jemmye approved her.
