Dancing With The Stars All Stars

Dancing With The Stars: All Stars continues with the second half of performances for this week, with no elimination until next week. All scores will carry over to next week, so it's still really important that the couples perform well.

Team: Melissa and Tony
Dance: Tango
Melissa's guilty pleasure song is "Toxic" by my girl Britney, so I'm pretty excited for her dance. And, when you think about it, there's some poetic symmetry to Melissa being all shot up with drugs to numb her enough to actually dance tonight, right? They've never done a Tango together before, and Melissa is frustrated because she's having trouble in rehearsals. In their "mad scientist" routine, however, she seems to have found her way, and no remnants of her injury remain. Judges said:
9.0 - Len gives her "a verbal pat on the back" for performing excellently. When Len tells her that there were a few spots that she could've "snapped" a little better, Tom reminds him that she was taken off in a stretcher two days ago.
9.0 - Bruno calls the routine intoxicating, though he agrees that there were a few spots that could've been sharper.
9.0 - Carrie Ann says Melissa was absolutely gritty and into character.
TOTAL: 27.0 (plus Team Score = 56.5)

Team: Shawn and Derek
Dance: Rhumba
"My Heart Will Go On" is Shawn's guilty pleasure song, and she's nervous about showing emotion in her performance because it's so far out of her comfort zone. For most of the Titanic-themed performance, I can't tell if they're actually dancing on a raised platform or if it just looks that way, but I kept waiting for Derek to disappear off the side, a la Jack Dawson...and then he did. The routine was great, but I rolled my eyes at Derek. Judges said:
10.0 - Bruno says it was like waves in the ocean. "I was with you every minute of it, emotionally connected.... absolutely stunning."
9.0 - Carrie Ann feels like a proud mama due to Shawn's growth. Which...she really didn't have that much to do with, but whatever. To continue the maternal metaphor, however, Carrie Ann scolds them for adding a lift, which is not permitted in this style. (Derek insists it was a "catch" and not a lift, and the audience and Bruno disagree with her.)
8.0 - Len loved the number, but he didn't see enough hip action for it to be a Rhumba. The audience boos that, too.
TOTAL: 27.0 (plus Team Score = 56.5)

Team: Apolo and Karina
Dance: Samba
Karina is determined to make up for her fall last week by creating a very difficult Samba routine for Apolo's guilty pleasure song, "Give It to Me Baby." It was a clean routine, but I felt a little underwhelmed by it - I just kept waiting for something more to happen. I guess that's what happens when your previous routine has a mic malfunction and a fall. Judges said:
8.5 - Carrie Ann says the legwork is fantastic and the way they use the floor is amazing, but "something is not quite right. I'm not feeling it." I agree Carrie Ann. I said the same thing.
9.5 - Len thinks it was terrific, with great rhythm and clean, sharp, precise movement.
9.0 - Bruno tells them they "got the fire going" and did a great job.
TOTAL: 27.0, (plus Team Score = 56.5)

Team: Sabrina and Louis
Dance: Waltz
Sabrina and Louis are dressed in full on Cinderella gear to dance to her guilty pleasure, "So This is Love." I can't fault her for her choice or her reasons for picking it, but she damn well better do that blue gown and glass slipper justice. Chandeliers have replaced mirror balls above the dance floor, and I'll admit - I'm a Disney sucker. I enjoyed the performance until the clock struck...three? Wait, why did it only chime three times? Judges said:
9.5 - Len loved the story and the flow - he called it a charming number.
9.5 - Bruno calls the dance "a magic ride into an enchanted kingdom."
10.0 - Carrie Ann didn't think she quite got to vulnerability, but she says the elegance of the dance didn't need vulnerability.
TOTAL: 29.0 (plus Team Score = 58.5)

Team: Gilles and Peta, Kelly and Val, Kirstie and Maks, Emmitt and Cheryl
Dance: Freestyle to Gangnam Style
The team is geared up for their freestyle dance, and it seems like everyone has ideas. Some stick, while others? Don't. Like when Gilles wants to hold off on revealing the true Gangnam choreography til the end and has his speaking privileges revoked by Maks. The key to their routine is fun, and the four couples come out in matching bright suits and sunglasses, which are quickly torn off to reveal some really unfortunate outfits underneath. Like...I'm not even sure what's supposed to be going on here, so it's better just to let it happen. There's a locker room, and a carousel horse, and a disco, and...bath towels? Well, I guess this is Gangnam style because the crowd loves it and everyone - including the judges - are on their feet! Judges said:
9.0 - Len says, "It wasn't tight, it wasn't together, but....it was FUN."
9.0 - Bruno does America a favor by demanding that Gilles give him his towel, which he rips off and throws over before retreating behind Peta to spare the ABC censors. He loved it too, which really is no surprise.
9.0 - Carrie Ann calls them a hot mess. "Sometimes hot mess is excusable and turns into crazy, fun insanity."
TOTAL: 27.0

Remember, this week's scores will be carried over to next week to determine the next couple eliminated from the show, and that includes the Team totals. Sabrina and Louis are at the top right now, with Kelly and Val at the bottom of the leader board. Tune in to see how things shake up with the second half of this round's performances next Monday!
