With the steals in place this season on The Voice, you never know what might happen during these Battle Rounds. That was the case when Adam Levine picked Kayla over Alessandra during their battle and said she seemed to lack confidence on the stage. Christina Aguilera took that to heart and wanted to help her gain that confidence and stole her away from Team Adam. Today, Alessandra talked with RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about the battle with Kayla, Christina's shocking steal and much more.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you initially try out for The Voice?
A. Alessandra: I want to try out for The Voice because I felt that obviously it is an amazing show and I think it is an amazing opportunity for an artist because it kind of builds you as an artist with the coaches involved helping you. I think that it is a really good show for me because I am 17 and I am young and still building upon myself as an artist. I think that it was a great, great opportunity for me because I've already learned so much. In my artistry, I've already changed a lot and becoming a better artist and really defining who I am. I've realized I am a pop R&B artist and that is what I'm going to stick to.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What was your strategy going into the battle with Kayla?
A. Alessandra: I really wanted to make sure that I performed well and that I had strong stage presence. I was really trying to capture attention from the audience and Adam or any of the coaches in case he didn't pick me and to be stolen. I was just going in there trying to do a fierce interpretation of the song.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Adam and Mary J. Blige said you were imprisoned on being perfect and you needed to let loose. Do you feel you did that during the battle?
A. Alessandra: I think that I'm definitely still working upon that, but I definitely let loose more than I expected for the battle. I tried to let loose and I'm still working upon that. I don't think many people realize this about me, but I'm a very insecure kind of person. Adam saw that and Christina saw it too and that's why she wanted to build upon my confidence and said no woman should feel unconfident on any level, so she kind of wants to work on me with that and I think that is kind of amazing. I have confidence, but probably not as much as I should and I am working on that to be the best artist. I really want to be the best that I can be.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Christina gave her speech after your battle and it seemed like she was giving you a pep talk, but then out of nowhere she hit the button to steal you. Did you see that one coming?
A. Alessandra: I had no idea she was going to steal me. I just thought she was trying to make me feel better. I did not expect her to steal me and I honestly did not see that coming at all, so when she stole me I was so relieved. I started crying because I was so happy. It was just a sigh of relief to have her steal me. I love Christina and she is such an inspiration to me. I'm so happy to say I get to work with her now.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What was it like getting a chance to work with Adam Levine and Mary J. Blige?
A. Alessandra: Definitely awesome. They are two extremely established artists, so it was really great to hear both their perspectives. Mary J. Blige, she is a pop R&B artist, so she knew where I was going and I really had fun working with her.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What is your strategy going into the Knockout Rounds coming up next?
A. Alessandra: For the next round of the show, I'm just going to try and stay true to pop R&B side of me. I'm going to try and let go more, as the coaches have been saying that I am trying to be too perfect and in my little nutshell and I'm trying to step out of that.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What has it been like seeing your Blind Audition and Battle on TV?
A. Alessandra: It's crazy to see yourself on TV. I'm like shaking every time I see myself because it is really cool to get to see yourself, especially because I've been singing. I think this has been a great accomplishment for me and I'm really proud of myself.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Anything to say to your fans out there reading this?
A. Alessandra: I love them so much and their support means so much to me, you have no idea. I truly try to answer my fans as much as possible. I do consider them like my friends. It is the most amazing thing to have people love what you do and I really truly appreciate every single person that appreciates me.
