The Real Housewives Of New York Season 5

by Jessica Blackwell

Tonight Andy started out with a topic that he called "the biggest scandal in the history of RHONY", LuAnne's alleged affair with the hot toddy Johnny Depp look alike, Tomas.

LuAnne and Jaques are still together despite the weak cover-up of her illicit affair. According to LuAnne, nothing happened that night. Her version of the story is that Tomas offered to give her a ride home and then stepped in for a tour of the house and then she kicked him out. That would make sense except, Tomas had already seen the house. She admitted she lied about who brought her home because she didn't want her housemates to make a big deal about it. She explained away her french coverup call by saying that she had to make sure that Tomas didn't say anything to conflict with her story. Sounds like a lot of lying to cover up a simple ride home...I'm not buying it. And BTW, they did make a big deal out of it LuAnne, so lying was pointless.

Ramona wasn't buying her story, coyly commenting that LuAnne "likes her men and she can't keep her hands off of them". LuAnne was of course pissed off that she made that comment, telling her not to go there, alluding to spilling some secrets about less than kosher behavior by the Stinger. Whatever it was, Ramona shut right up and apologized quicker than I've ever seen her.

Sonja's sexy ways were in the spotlight as Andy read several naughty questions from the viewers. They all wanted to ask about the "illegal sex act" but Sonja shrugged the questions off. All season long, the closeness between Sonja and Ramona made me question if they were more than friends. Thankfully a viewer wrote in and pondered the same thing. They both denied it, citing their relationship was similar to that of sisters. Yea right, more like kissing cousins.

Aviva came under fire for condemning Sonja and Ramona's over sexualized behavior but tolerating her father's creepiness, even when it came to her friends. Given the fact that she tried to hook her father up with Sonja, knowing he was a sex addict, I have to question her judgement as well.

When the season began, I was new to the show so I was just beginning to form my options about the cast. One of my observations about Sonja was that she had an unrealistic sense of entitlement, and I got this from the business interactions she had with Heather, who helped her develop her product FOR FREE!

Andy demanded to know where the elusive toaster oven was! He wanted some toast, dammit.  Despite the rush to create the packaging for the oven, the product hasn't even been created yet. Shockingly, although I hadn't thought it possible, Sonja managed to further insult Heather.  She  brought sketches from a viewer to demonstrate how she wanted her name to look. Apparently, the viewer was able to capture the essence of the "sexy J" that Sonja wanted. Both Sonja and Heather agreed that they no longer want to work together professionally. I think that's for the best.

Although I think she was very ungrateful, you can't deny that Sonja went through a hard time this season dealing with her divorce and settlement terms. Sonja is currently selling her home in France to pay off her debt, but she plans to keep her home in New York.

Of all the drama that went on this season, the biggest deterioration of friendship went on between Aviva and Ramona. They started out as butt buddies, and by the end of the season they were sworn enemies. The ladies sparred over whether Ramona had the right to throw George out of her charity event. Ramona maintained that George assaulted her, Aviva thinks she was rude.

Andy got stung by the Stinger when he insinuated that Ramona had a drinking problem. Andy made reference to the fact that two former cast members felt that she had a problem and now current ones did as well. Well, Ramona didn't like that very much at all, so she put him in his place. I certainly hope that this isn't the case.

My favorite housewife turned out to be Carole, who in fact did date Mr. Clooney. She stayed true to herself the entire season, not an easy thing to do with the women she was around. All in all, this was a good season, and I'll be watching the next one. See you then!
