Amanda Brown from The Voice Season 3

by Todd Betzold

The coaches weren't feeling Amanda Brown at first on The Voice and only Cee Lo Green turned around for her during her Blind Audition. That was enough to make it on the show and during her Battle Round she proved she is a force to be reckoned with. Cee Lo didn't pick her as the winner in the battle, but the other three coaches were quick to hit their button to steal her away! Today, she talked with RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about why she went with Team Adam, being in the spotlight on The Voice and much more.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you initially try out for The Voice?
A. Amanda: One of my best friends actually found out about the auditions and set it up for me to go in and audition and kind of just pushed me. It was never something that I had initially thought about doing and auditioning for a show like The Voice. He encouraged me and told me you'll never know what can come of it and now I'm totally glad that I listened to him and he was right.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: You were a background singer before The Voice. What has it been like going from the background to the spotlight?
A. Amanda: It's definitely been great. It's not my first time singing solo. I've performed a little bit throughout NYC, but something on this scale. I've never experienced anything like it and singing by myself on this kind of platform. For me, it's been kind of a whirlwind and kind of a dream come true to be able to perform in front of hundreds and hundreds of people on a television show. I have no complaints.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What was your strategy going into the battle with Trevin?
A. Amanda: I didn't really have a strategy. Trevin and I said that we wanted to give a really great performance and we wanted to be more of a duet than a battle. We wanted the music to stand on its own and for people to enjoy the performance and people not to think about two people going head-to-head, even though that was the case. We just wanted people to really enjoy the performance and I think that came across.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: During your audition you had only Cee Lo turn around for you and then after the battle with Trevin, you had the other three coaches trying to steal you away. What was that like for you?
A. Amanda: It definitely was a bit surreal. I kind of felt proud of how I did it in that moment and the decisions I made thus far in the show My blind audition, I sang "Valerie" and I wanted that to be just a fun and lively performance and even though their backs were turned to me, I feel really proud about that performance and sticking to my guns in terms of the arrangement and how I approached it. I felt in the Battle Round when all three coaches wanted me, I kind of felt validated. I'm glad I stuck to my guns and I'm still on the show and I feel great.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you choose Team Adam over Christina and Blake?
A. Amanda: It was a really difficult decision and I kind of said to myself now what's going to happen going into these battle rounds. If there was an opportunity for me to be stolen, I said to myself I'd listen intently to what each coach had to say and go off my gut. When the moment came for me to choose someone, I did just that. I listened to all three and they all had nothing but positive and great things to say about the performance, but Adam said something that resonated with me. Something along the lines of he can't help me as a signer because I already know how to sing, but he could help me with my artistry and performance and reach outside the box. For me, that's kind of what I'm all about, so I decided to go with Adam.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What is your strategy going into the Knockout Rounds?
A. Amanda: I don't have a strategy. I just go into it saying I'm going to give the best performance that I can give and enjoy it and be as honest and true to the music as possible. I feel that is all I can do at the end of the day.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What's it been like seeing your Blind Audition and Battle on TV?
A. Amanda: It was a bit weird (laughs). Even for me, I'm not the kind of person that enjoys listening to myself or watching myself on video, so it was a little weird. I had a mini-get together with my close family and friends and we all watched it. It was nice having my friends and family there and seeing their reactions. I can say that is what I enjoyed. The whole watching myself on TV, maybe not so much.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: You've made quite a lot of fans out there, especially after that battle with Trevin. What would you like to say to those fans out there reading this?
A. Amanda: I love you guys so much. This has been an awesome experience and you guys have made it that much more enriching and great, so thank you all so much for your support. If anyone would like to say hello to me, I'm on Twitter @Amanda__Brown.
