The X Factor Season 2

by Todd Betzold

Boot Camp continues tonight on The X Factor and we ended last week with the battles done and time for the judges to discuss the singers remaining and of the 60 that took part in the battles, only 24 will move on to the judges' homes. What 24 acts with it be though?

Boot Camp comes to an end today and the judges are talking on what acts move on to the next step and get teams and go to the mentors' homes. We haven't seen a lot of groups this season, so how they going to fill a team of all groups? Will they be forming some new teams again like last season?

This season the acts will be broken into four categories: Teens, Young Adults, Over 25s and Groups. There are only six acts that will move forward in each group and they are bringing them all out in their categories. Six people will move on and the rest will go home from each line.

Up first are the Young Adults, which is a tough one. This category includes Jillian Jensen, Paige Thomas, CeCe Frey and Jennel Garcia. The first person through is CeCe Frey (ugh). The next four are Willie Jones, Jennel Garcia, Nick Youngerman and Paige Thomas (yay). That leaves one more spot and it has to go to Jillian Jensen!!!! It does and I could not be happier. Everyone else is headed home, including Sophie Tweed-Simmons, the daughter of Gene Simmons.

The next category is Over 25s, which includes Freddie Combs, Jason Brock, Tate Stevens and Tara Simon. The first person through is Jason Brock! The next four are Daryl Black, David Correy, Tara Simon (ugh) and Tate Stevens. That leaves one more spot and it goes to Vino Alan. I guess he didn't screw up as much he thought in the battle when he was hitting the walls. That means Freddie Combs and Jeffrey Gutt are heading home.

The next category is the Groups, which features Emblem3 and Sister C. The first group going through is Sister C. The next groups are Dope Crisis and Emblem3. Simon tells the other groups it is the end of the road for them and they are headed home. Three groups make it, so three new groups will be formed??? I have only seen Emblem3 and Sister C in the groups all season.

The final category is the Teens, which includes Johnny Maxwell and Diamond White. The first singer going through is Beatrice Miller. The next four singers moving on are James Tanner, Carly Rose Sonenclar, Diamond White and Reed Deming (the Bieber-lookalike). The final spot goes to Arin Ray (ugh). That means Johnny Maxwell does not make it.

The judges deliberate and they ask for singers to come back, including Johnny Maxwell, Lyric Da Queen and Ally Brooke. The judges have formed new groups, as an all-girl group (Lylas), all-boy group (Playback) and a rapping group.

Now it is time for the mentors to find out what group they will get. The producers will pick the groups and now they are just waiting for the call. L.A. said he has no interest in the Over 25s or Groups. Demi wants the Young Adults and Britney wants the Teens. Britney gets the first call and she gets the Teens, so she is so excited. Simon is next and he has the Groups and he says he is happy for them. Demi is next and she gets the Young Adults and she is so excited and thinks she has the winning team. L.A. gets his phone call and he has the Over 25s and he slams down the phone and is pissed he has that group.

The Top 24 acts are now heading to their mentor's home and they have no clue who it will be. The Groups are up first and are excited to see Simon come out of the house. Helping him out with the mentoring is Marc Anthony.

Now time for the Young Adults to meet their mentor and they are excited to see Demi come out as their mentor. They all wanted it to be her, so no disappointment in that room. Helping Demi out with the mentoring is Nick Jonas, which the girls go crazy for.

The Teens arrive at their mentor's home and they all want to have that house someday. They are excited to see Britney come out of the house, so I think this is a good fit. To help her out this season will be will.i.am.

The last category is Over 25s and they are loving the house. Out comes L.A. and they are all excited to have him as a mentor, even though he is not happy to have them. He tells them he was not excited to have the Over 25s, but now he has to figure out how to win. Helping L.A. out this season is Justin Bieber and his manager Scooter Braun.

Time to look at the Young Adults and Demi Lovato. There are six singers and only four will make the live shows, but which four will Demi choose? Up first is Jennel Garcia, who sings "I Kissed A Girl." She does a good job, but was very nervous. She thought they were going to chat at first and didn't and then thought afterwards and didn't. Beforehand, Demi told her to watch her actions onstage when she gets nervous she grabs her hair and that could have affected her when she sang for Demi and Nick because Demi said she was awkward at moments.

Up next is Willie Jones and he is singing "Nobody Knows," which is the song he screwed up during the battles at Boot Camp. He does the song justice that time around and remembers all the words. He doesn't show off that low voice he has, but does good. Nick said he is a star, but sometimes he is country and sometimes he is R&B and he needs to define that.

Next is Jillian Jensen, which I am beyond excited for. Beforehand, Demi told her to watch her facial expressions when she sings because they can be weird. She sings "Gravity" and she nails it. She has such a good job. Nick said it may be inappropriate, but there is something sexy about her. Demi said she may have taken their advice too literally and didn't show emotion in parts when she should of.

Nick Youngerman is next and he sings "Tik Tok." He does a decent job, but it just seems awkward. Nick Jonas doesn't seem too impressed by him, but he can entertaining in parts. He doesn't sing though and I want a singer. He thinks he nailed it and Nick Jonas said he thoroughly enjoyed it. Demi said she couldn't tell if she was loving it or just super annoyed by it.

Of course, the final two people left are Paige Thomas and CeCe Frey. Can we get off this "battle" between them please? Paige goes first and she sings "Turn Up The Music." The nerves from the battle are gone, as she nails this performance. She has a lot of sex appeal and sounds real good. Demi said she blew them away at the first audition, but as it has gone on she has shown her insecurities and not sure if she can handle this. Nick asked if she can get her back to that first audition.

The last singer to perform is CeCe Frey. Demi talks to her beforehand and she said she needs to show the emotion during her performance. I have always not liked this girl, but I am kind of seeing a different side to her right now and I don't mind her. She puts up her walls and that is an okay thing to do. She sings "I'm Sexy And I Know It" and nails it. She took the directions from Demi and flew with it. She comes out not as confident and she won me over and sang great. I kinda like her now...anyone else?

Demi and Nick meet to discuss the sex singers and see who will make it to the live shows. I think it will be Willie, Jillian, CeCe and Paige. Nick Youngerman didn't prove himself enough and I don't think he would do well on the shows, but he could pull in votes for being cute. Jennel is good, but I think she has room for growth and needs some more time to work on it.

Time to look at the Groups, as we visit Simon Cowell. Playback, the new all-boy group, has been working 24-7 to prove themselves in this competition. They are first and Simon tells them there can be strength in numbers and they can do this. Okay, do we have some competition for One Direction? They do an amazing job and it is fun and entertaining and I loved them. Marc Anthony didn't like it, but Simon disagreed. He said there is something young and naïve and likable about them.

Up next is Emblem3, which has been a strong group all season. I have liked them all season, but this one does nothing for me. I was bored and one of the guys missed his mark with the rapping and it seemed to fall apart. Simon tells them they lost their way a little bit. Marc said the younger one is the weaker one, but he liked them.

Sister C is the other group that has been somewhat shown this season, as mblem3. Britney said during Boot Camp that she is annoyed by them. Simon told them beforehand that it may be hard for people to like them and they need to work on that. They do a decent job, but again it nothing special and I am bored with them. Simon said they showed them they are contenders.

The next group is the newly formed Lyric 145, which consists of Lyric Da Queen and One4Five. The guys are glad to have Lyric and are impressed that Simon can even find a female version of them. Okay, so two groups that have been working together for years did nothing for me and the two new groups formed by the judges have blown me away. I loved this and it was so entertaining. Marc and Simon loved it and said Lyric is a star.

Next up is Dope Crisis, which yet again, is not really talked about. They do all this before-performance stuff with the other groups, but nothing with Dope Crisis. They do alright, but I know nothing about them. Simon said they gave all they could give and did good.

The last group tonight is the last of the newly formed groups: Lylas, the all-girl group. They seem to be getting together very well, but will they mesh together when they perform? If I have to hear about Dinah Jane Hansen living with 23 people in one house and how she is doing it for her family one more time, I might slap her. Move past the sob story and just sing! They all do a great job with their parts and all have amazing voices, but there was not a lot of harmonizing together, so who knows. It is a group. Simon said it was unbelievable.

Simon and Marc meet after all the groups have performed and Simon said one group has clearly performed better than all of them. Only four groups will move on and I think it will be Lylas, Playback, Lyric 145 and Emblem3. Who do you think it will be?
