Dancing With The Stars All Stars

While some results shows can be an hour's worth of filler, this week's Dancing With The Stars All Stars elimination should be anything but. Not only will we learn the TWO couples who will not be continuing in the competition, but we'll also be learning more about next week's challenge, where the couples will be deciding on each others' fates.

Before we get into all that, however, the judges decide to bring Shawn and Derek back to the dance floor for an encore. They may not have been the highest scoring couple of the night, but I don't think we'll hear any complaints about having to see this routine again!

Melissa and Tony are among the first couples up for results, along with Gilles and Peta, Kirstie and Maks, and Emmitt and Cheryl. The greatest thing to come out of the recaps for these couples is Bruno exclaiming about Maks, "He looks like an ugly woman!" Melissa and Tony, Gilles and Peta, and Emmitt and Cheryl are safe, but Tom tells Kirstie and Maks they are in jeopardy this week.

Performing tonight is special guest Frankie Moreno, direct from the Stratosphere in Las Vegas with "Tangerine Honey". The DWTS troupe is accompanied by Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer. Remember, Kyle was in the running for Fan Favorite (the spot which ultimately went to Sabrina), so it's nice to see him back on the dance floor.

The next four couples to get results are Shawn and Derek, Apolo and Karina, Drew and Anna, and Kelly and Val. Shawn and Derek, Apolo and Karina, and Kelly and Val are all safe, while Drew and Anna are in jeopardy again. During the recap package, Drew mentioned that he doesn't understand the judge's scoring, and I have to admit, I said the same thing. The scores don't seem consistent with the critiques.

The first elimination comes down to Drew and Anna or Kirstie and Maks. The couple with the lowest overall total is revealed to be Drew and Anna. It's a sad day in the ballroom when we lose two boyband guys in a row, ladies and gentlemen.

As Tom announced during the performances, next week's dances will challenge the couples to choose the styles for EACH OTHER. The dancers realize that strategy and alliances will play a role, and, as Melissa points out, "You hope that you have not ticked anybody off." Most of the dancers - All Stars and Pros alike - are nervous about the twist, but Gilles is excited. He just loves dancing!

The dance styles they'll have to choose from are revealed, and the list has several DWTS staples in addition to some that have never been performed before. The couple with the lowest cumulative score will begin by picking for the couple with the highest score and so forth down the line.

I don't totally understand why this is happening now and not after the second elimination has been announced, but Tom proceeds by calling Bristol and Mark to choose a dance for Gilles and Peta. The pairings and choices are as follows:

Bristol and Mark: Bollywood for Gilles and Peta
Kirstie and Maks: Disco for Sabrina and Louie
Helio and Chelsie: Mambo for Shawn and Derek
Kelly and Val: Bolero for Emmitt and Cheryl
Melissa and Tony: Hip Hop for Apolo and Karina
Apolo and Karina: Jitterbug for Melissa and Tony
Emmitt and Cheryl: Contemporary for Kelly and Val
Shawn and Derek: Broadway for Helio and Chelsie
Sabrina and Louis: Charleston for Kirstie and Maks
Gilles and Peta: Rock ‘n Roll for Bristol and Mark

In the AT&T Spotlight Dance we meet Penn State student Joshua Johnson of Harlem, who tells how he found a way to use dancing to get himself the money he needed for college. Tap dancing for the public, he raised the money he needed for meals, books, and, ultimately, his dreams. His performance is not only impressive, it's also totally fun - how come tap wasn't one of the dance styles for our couples to try out next week?! I definitely would've voted for any couple who tapped out Newsies' "King of New York"!

Before we get our final results, there's one more guest performance - Karmin, with a medley of "Brokenhearted" and "Hello". And I will admit that I did not realize Karmin was not just one person. I need to pay more attention.

So the final couples to learn their fates are Sabrina and Louis, Helio and Chelsie, and Bristol and Mark. I predicted last night that Bristol would be safe for at least another week, so I kind of yawned through Tom's announcement that she and Mark were not in the bottom 2.

The final pair of couples in jeopardy this week are Helio and Chelsie and Sabrina and Louis - a champion and a fan favorite. Tom makes the tough announcement that Helio and Chelsie are eliminated. "Another champion falls," Tom says.

So that's it for iconic dance week, but we've got an all new challenge for our All Stars to take on next week!
