Project Runway Season 10

by Todd Betzold

It doesn't get any bigger than this for the five remaining designers on Project Runway, as they are one step away from being in the finale for Season 10! As Heidi Klum says in the previews, one or more of the five designers will be going home and the others head to Fashion Week!

The designers head to the runway to meet Heidi and find out what is up for the final challenge. Heidi said she is sending them to a far, far away place where they will meet Tim Gunn and a special guest with all the details. The far, far away place: Oheka Castle. The special guest with Tim is Billy B., who is a makeup artist with L'Oreal Paris, and he is going to help them with the makeup for this challenge. The designers will be using the beautiful grounds of the castle to help inspire them for the next challenge. The other part to inspire them is the launch of L'Oreal Paris' new line of makeup called Electric Fantasie, which consists of four muses. The designers will create an avant-garde look based on the muse.

Tim picks out of the button bag to find out what muse the designers will be working with. Fabio has The Enchanted Queen (fitting), Sonjia has The Seductive Temptress, Dmitry has The Wise Mystic, Melissa has The Artsy Muse and since Christopher is last he can pick any of the muses and he picks The Enchanted Queen (fitting again). They have 45 minutes to sketch, a $400 budget and two days to create their look.

The designers do some sketching and then head to Mood and shop. Fabio said it is the largest budget they have had all season, but with avant-garde it takes a lot to complete a look and the budget will be eaten up quickly. Melissa is struggling because she doesn't work with the colors of the Artsy Muse and wish she had the Enchanted Queen.

The designers head to the workroom and Tim meets with them and said the judges are expecting the looks to look like they have been worked on for two months. After Tim leaves, Sonjia notices that her gold material is gone and that could hurt her look completely. It is five yards of it and all gone!

Time comes back in with five hours left in the first day to see where the designers are headed. For Melissa, she seems to be behind schedule already, which is nothing new for her. For Dmitry, Tim said it doesn't have any remarkable drama about it and it should. Fabio and Christopher will be competing, pretty much, this challenge, so the worse design goes home? For Fabio, Tim said the coat is looking costumey and it looks dreary and flat. For Sonjia, he tells her she has not worked up to her potential as a designer and she needs to get it out.

Dmitry keeps saying he is very tired and I am over it. The time is flying by and they don't seem to be showing many issues and problems right now. The designers head home for the night and no one is complaining too much.

The designers head back to the workroom and are stressed because of the fact they need to do a month's worth of work in two days. Fabio has decided to flip his jacket upside down, which will give it the wow appeal. Sonjia is switching things up and adding things to try to bring out what Tim was looking for. Bill B. arrives with Tim and they have their makeup consultation with the models.

Time talks with the designers again and he loves what Fabio has done and is impressed. For Melissa, Tim said she has a lot of work to do and asked if she has a schedule and she has a list. For Sonjia, he said he can see the avant-garde, but her challenge is to keep it looking like a student project. He tells Christopher that his dress looks like it is from the 1890s and there is no avant-garde to it. Christopher said it is in the wider hips, but Tim said it could be looked at as a mistake. For Dmitry, he questions what is avant-garde as well. He said he would be thrilled if it were a ready-to-wear challenge, but not for avant-garde and they keep seeing the same look from him.

The models come in for a fitting and Dmitry is thinking how he can change the look after his discussion with Tim. Fabio is excited because everything fits his model like a glove. Christopher feels his look is on the verge of costumey, but he loves the gown. Melissa feels her color scheme will either be loved or hated. Another day comes to an end and it is one morning before the runway show.

It is morning of the runway show and the designers head to the workroom. Tim comes in and the designers make their final touches on their looks. The models come in and time to get everyone in place for the runway. Everyone seems to have it together except Melissa, which is no big surprise!

It is runway time and the judges tonight are Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and guest judge this week is actress Zoe Saldana. The looks I liked: Melissa (it is odd and different the cut on the skirt is cool), Fabio (the coat is very cool and she looks like an Enchanted Queen) The looks I didn't like: Dmitry (same look he always does and it is an avant-garde challenge), Sonjia (it looks cool, but she looks like a mermaid) and Christopher (nothing special with it or unique).

Heidi said they will talk to all the designers tonight and one or more of them will go home tonight. For Sonjia, Heidi said she loves the color and can see many stars wearing it on the red carpet, but wished the mesh would match her color more. Michael said it looks like an ice skating outfit and a banquet table flew on her and stuck a napkin here and it doesn't look like an avant-garde look. For Christopher, Michael said the makeup is cool and a little goth for him and it looks like she has hairy arms. Heidi said the breasts look empty and too much material there, which Zoe agrees on. Zoe said the back is absolutely beautiful. Michael said she is deflated a little to him.

For Dmitry, Heidi said it looks good from any angle and the fit is crazy good. Zoe said the sleeves are stunning. Michael said he is a brilliant tailor, but the shoulders are a little costumey for him. Nina said the details are so incredible. For Fabio, Michael said the jacket is fantastic, but the pants lost him and are a little Amish. Heidi said it looks like she is going to a funeral and she just looks depressing. Nina said the jacket it amazing. Zoe you can't see her and you can only see the clothes. For Melissa, Michael said he loves it and the color combo is terrific and she has a good hand for leather. Nina said she loves the vest and drama of that collar, but the skirt is a little too long. Heidi said she didn't know which outfit was uglier: Melissa or Fabio's and she is shocked they all loved it.

The models leave the runway and the judges talk to the designers on why they should go to Fashion Week and who should go with them. Melissa picks Sonjia and Fabio. Fabio picks Melissa and Christopher. Dmitry picks Fabio and Christopher. Christopher picks Fabio and Dmitry. Sonjia picks Melissa and Dmitry.

The judges discuss the final five and Heidi said since they all seem to think different on this challenge designs, they have to look back at previous challenges. They seem to love all of the designers, so who knows what it is going to happen. Nina thinks Dmitry is a one-trick pony, Heidi can't remember looks of Fabio that stand out and Sonjia seems to not have a consistent design and they wouldn't know what she would bring down the runway.

The designers come back to the runway and it is time to find out the results. Christopher is in and designing for New York Fashion Week. Dmitry is the winner of this challenge and headed to Fashion Week. Melissa is in and also going to Fashion Week, so we are down to Fabio and Sonjia. Fabio is in and headed to Fashion Week, but is Sonjia headed home or to Fashion Week? I thought she would be a possible winner for Season 10, but Heidi tells her she is headed home! Is anyone else shocked?
