This week's episode of RHOA began with Phaedra and Apollo at church, preparing for Ayden's "dedication" ceremony, which is a ceremony where you dedicate your child to the Lord and promise to raise him a Christian. What does this mean to the rest of us? That Phaedra has invented yet another southern "tradition" and wants us all to accept it as gospel. Sure, Phaedra. But why does this ceremony need flower girls, bell ringers and child wranglers (and by the way, what sort of degree does one need to become a child wrangler)? Not to mention that the baby would be carried down the aisle in a giant manger. Between the sip and see from last season, the twelve cakes from last week, and now THIS, I can only imagine just how spoiled this child is gonna be when he grows up.
Speaking of unnecessary extravagance, Sheree and Damon went to look at engagement rings, and you just knew that Sheree was going to try to get him to buy an expensive one - because Tierra is used to extravagant things, you know. Damon had a bit of sticker shock when he was shown a ring that was $70K, and ended up choosing a ring that was $6,500, much to Sheree's chagrin. She felt that he should have had four years of money saved up for this, because they've been dating for eight years. Once again - should Sheree give ANYBODY financial advice? Really?!
Next, we caught up with NeNe at home with her youngest son, Brentt, and she was trying to make sure that he was okay with the divorce, because he never talks to her about it. As it turned out, Brentt (why do all the men in her life have extra letters in their names?) noticed how happy his parents were as separate people, and seems to be adjusting just fine. Is it possible that there COULD be a well adjusted kid on this show? Who'd have thought?
Meanwhile, Kim and the family were preparing for Kroy's homecoming from football camp. She decided to make him a home cooked meal, and how does Kim do that? By hiring a chef to come over and make it, of course! We'll come back to Kim in a minute.
Phaedra and Apollo took Ayden to a photographer to have pictures taken. They were going to be dressed up like royalty...which to Phaedra meant being dressed up in a long, red leopard print dress. Apollo looked dashing, as he always does, and little Ayden looked SO CUTE in his little tuxedo with a bowtie. He was jumping around in the chair and being all smiley, and in the end, the picture came out great.
Then Sheree and Damon checked out a venue for Damon to make his proposal to Tierra. Damon made a comment that he needs to be inebriated for the event to go well, and then he and Sheree went back and forth about how he was wrong. He also said he wasn't sure he wanted to do this, and Sheree took that moment to pounce on that, telling him that he needs to do this because he wants to and not feel pressured. Gee, wouldn't YOU feel relaxed if your future mother in law was putting so much pressure on you, all the while telling you not to feel pressured?! I'm not surprised that Damon is nervous - marriage is a big deal, and I think anybody would be.
Then, it was the moment that Kim had been waiting for: Kroy arrived home! Everyone was thrilled to see him, and Kim gave him a tour of the house to show him how hard she'd worked at getting it ready for him. When they were all sitting down, Kim dropped the bomb that she'd actually FIRED Sweetie! Who knew she had it in her?! Everybody seemed okay with the situation, and then they all sat down to the delicious dinner that Kim lied about preparing.
It's time for Ayden's dedication, and there was Dwight, just as expected, taking control of the event! Everything looked incredible, and the guests started arriving. Cynthia and Peter were first, and apparently they're getting along better now. I'm sure it won't last. The bigger story was the procession, which was a spectacle. All the children came walking in, throwing flowers and ringing bells, followed by Phaedra, and then Ayden... in his manger, being held up by four pallbearers, with Apollo in tow. It looked absolutely ridiculous, but who can tell Phaedra anything?! More on this in a minute...
Damon came over to Sheree's house to tell her that he's decided to postpone the proposal, because he's scared and just doesn't feel ready. Sheree was disappointed but said that she would rather they both be ready for it than rush into it. She should have taken responsibility for scaring the poor boy out of it, in my opinion. If she'd only shut up, he might have gone through with it!
Meanwhile, back at the dedication (which was really just a lot of talking and laying hands on the baby), the reception took place, and the other ladies still hadn't arrived. Kim and Kroy showed up super late, but Phaedra wasn't mad. Cynthia and Kim were forced to sit at the same table, and Kim was upset that Kandi and Sheree couldn't make it. Cynthia told Kim that Africa was an amazing trip, and that Kim would have really enjoyed it. Kim just smiled...she said that Cynthia is passive aggressive, and I have to agree. It was all pretty awkward, and Peter got up and left the table, which made Cynthia mad because now she was left there by herself. Peter came back to the table, and he and Cynthia decided to leave.
On the way out, Cynthia said goodbye to Kim, and outside, she admonished Peter for being antisocial. HE said that he didn't want to sit through the awkwardness, and Kim and Kroy came out shortly after. Kim decided that she had to go talk to Cynthia, and she confronted her about what she'd said in Africa. They went back and forth about crossing lines and how they'd both done so, but in the end Cynthia apologized to Kim. It was pretty fake, considering they walked away from each other still talking smack.
Next week, Phaedra "dedicates" her new business, NeNe goes to Hollywood, and Kroy has an important question for Kim's dad. Gee, I wonder what it is.
