The artists are taking to the streets on this week's episode of Work Of Art: The Next Great Artist.
The artists get in the van and head out to their mystery location in Brooklyn, where they meet China and Simon to find out what their next challenge will be: create a piece of street art on the side of a building in Brooklyn. The eight artists will be divided in teams of two with the winners getting $30,000. They have all day, night and morning to work on their wall.
They have 30 minutes to choose their 44-foot wall and discuss with their partner what they want to do. The Sucklord and Sarah K. are trying to keep it simple this week, so they can avoid the bottom three. Sara J. and Kymia are struggling because they make small drawings and now have to make a piece on a huge wall. Young and Dusty are struggling to decide on a piece that would be relatable to their very different backgrounds, gay man vs. Southern straight man. Michelle and Lola are going with a party scene for the wall.
The Sucklord and Sarah K. have a little flirting going on, which gets Lola a little jealous, but Lola claims there is enough of The Sucklord to go around.
Young is nervous because him and Dusty are not connecting and he has never done street art before. Lola and Michelle are going with the party scene, including champagne bottles, cigarettes, tigers and penises...seems a little out of control.
Kymia and Sara J., both families having immigrated to the United States, so they are doing a piece on a family being uprooted so they can relate it to themselves.
Young and Dusty struggled the first night of the challenge, but had an epiphany that as Young was losing his father, Dusty was becoming one...this will now be their idea for their wall. Kymia wants to use the scanner, but Michelle and Lola are using both. Kymia asks when they'll be done and they ignore her...this sets her into a tizzy and drama happens.
The artists head down to Brooklyn and start working on their walls. They are all getting their pieces put on the wall and Simon comes down for his visit and critiques. He likes the idea of Young and Dusty and Kymia and Sara J. He was worried about Lola and Michelle's piece and thought it had too much going on.
At the end of the night, the rain starts coming down and they are all worried about how their pieces will hold up against the rain. In the morning, they go and check them out and they are all fine.
Time for the public to come check it out and we have the judges, China, Jerry and Bill, back with special guest judge, street art pioneer Lee Quinones. Drama between the artists as Lola and Michelle have stickers for the public to add to their wall, but say they can add to any wall and start tagging the wall of Sara J. and Kymia. A catfight will happen eventually.
Mixed reactions from the judges and public before we head back to the gallery. The two favorite walls are from Dusty and Young and Sara J. and Kymia. We check out their walls and get the judges' feedback. China announces that the winner of the $30,000 is Dusty and Young.
That leaves Lola and Michelle and The Sucklord and Sarah K in the bottom two. They get to defend their walls to the judges before the judges discuss who will be sent home. They bring the artists back and we find out that he was given enough chances and they send The Sucklord home.
