Jazz-Minh Moore from Work Of Art: The Next Great Artist Season 2

by Todd Betzold

Pop art was the theme this week on Work Of Art: The Next Great Artist and even though Britney Spears is a pop icon, the judges were not feeling the Britney-inspired piece by Jazz-Minh Moore and she was sent home. Today we got an exclusive interview with Jazz-Minh as she talked about her experiences on Work Of Art.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: What made you try out for Work Of Art?
A: Jazz-Minh: I had a number of friends that were on the first season, so I was heavily encouraged to try out.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: What were your thoughts when you found out there would be two artists eliminated this week?
A: Jazz-Minh: It a little sinking feeling in stomach. I did not think I would be one of the people to go home.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: How do you feel about the piece you created, given the time constraints in the competition?
A: Jazz-Minh: I actually feel good about it. If I'm gonna go out, I'd rather go out on one I felt strong about. It had good content. I felt the piece was heartfelt...it was raw and honest. I don't think in poppy terms, so it was hard to fulfill that challenge.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: Looking back now and after seeing the episode last night, do you regret keeping the white paint on your piece?
A: Jazz-Minh: I don't think that made it or broke it for me. The work wouldn't have succeeded with or without it on it. I loved it there. I actually had printed two photos and went with the one with the paint on it. The white paint filled the bottom right corner. I don't think that is why I was sent home.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: Did any of the other artists stand out to you during the competition?
A: Jazz-Minh: Young Sun is brilliant and always on point. He is clear, concise and very nice. Michelle seems like a really interesting artist. She is younger and will do great work.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: Would you ever do another reality show?
A: Jazz-Minh: I doubt it. I only did it for Jerry Saltz. I respect him. I wanted him to see my work and get his reviews. I wouldn't have done it without him on the show. I'm not interested in being on reality television...more interested in growing as an artist.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: Who do you think is going to win this season, and why?
A: Jazz-Minh: I don't know...there are some strong competitors and it is easy to get booted. One weak week and you could be gone. It's not an accumulated success. It is up for grabs.

Q: Todd, RealityWanted: What's next for Jazz-Minh?
A: Jazz-Minh: Main thing is a big solo show on at Lyons Wier Gallery on 24th Street in Chelsea in January. It's called "Is That All There Is." So, I've been working on that. I also have a group show called "America Eats Youth" coming up in L.A. For more information, check out www.jazzminh.com.
