Dancing With the Stars Season 13

by Danae Young

This week on the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars, twelve new stars are in the brand new mega-sized ballroom to prove they deserve the mirror ball trophy.

Ron Artest from the Los Angeles Lakers and his partner Peta Murgatroyd were up first with their Cha Cha. Len Goodman said it lacked Cha Cha content and thought the footwork was atrocious. Bruno Tonioli said his bone length is difficult to navigate. Carrie Anne Inaba thought it was wrong for all of the technical reasons, but she thought the fun was high up there.

Score: 5+4+5=14.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke were next with the Viennese Waltz. Rob is the second in his family to be on the show following his sister Kim, who isn’t that much of a dancer. Bruno said he danced like he was a little duckling petrified. Carrie Anne can see potential in him. Len was not impressed, but not depressed.

Score: 6+5+5=16.

Kristin Cavallari from Laguna Beach and The Hills is partnered up with Mark Ballas and they danced the Cha Cha. Carrie Anne said she shines and she wants to watch her more. Len thought it was lively, but noticed she went into her shell a little. Bruno loves a bad girl with hot hips and thinks she has the full package.

Score: 7+6+6=19.

Chynna Phillips, singer from Grammy-nominated Wilson Phillips, and Tony Dovolani danced the Viennese Waltz. Len said it wasn’t the best first dance he’s seen, but it was close. Bruno thought she looked like she was stepping out of a dream and into his heart. Carrie Anne said she is gorgeous and thinks she is a very graceful dancer.

Score: 8+7+7=22.

Tristan MacManus and former prosecutor, TV host and journalist Nancy Grace danced the Cha Cha. Bruno said she has the moves but she doesn’t seem to believe in herself. Carrie Anne thinks she is the happiest contestant while dancing, but she needs to remember choreography. Len said there was no flare and attack and thought it was underwhelming.

Score: 5+5+6=16.

Actor David Arquette and Kym Johnson danced the Viennese Waltz. Carrie Anne really liked it, but thinks he just needs to relax a little. Len was very, very impressed. Bruno said he looked the part he just needs to learn to keep the role of the dance.

Score: 6+6+6=18.

Model and actress Elisabetta Canalis and Val Chmerkovskiy, Maksim’s brother, danced the Cha Cha. Len didn’t like the bed malarkey in the beginning and he thought it got very brittle when she was by herself. Bruno thought it all fell apart when she was by herself and Carrie Anne agreed with him.

Score: 5+5+5=15.

Hope Solo, Olympic gold medalist in soccer, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Viennese Waltz. Bruno said she needs to learn control. Carrie Anne thought the body contact and hold was really impressive. Len said she had good hold, good posture and lovely movement, but she needs more femininity in her dance.

Score: 7+7+7=21.

Fashion Guru Carson Kressley danced the Cha Cha with his partner Anna Trebunskaya. Carrie Anne said it was her favorite dance of the night, but technically speaking, not so much. Len said it had elements of swagger and dagger, but it was still great entertainment. Bruno thought it was full out outrageous fun.

Score: 6+5+6=17.

J.R. Martinez, a U.S. Army Veteran turned actor, and his partner Karina Smirnoff danced the Viennese Waltz. Len said J.R. stands for “just right.” Bruno said he is an inspiration and thought he did very well. Carrie Anne was touched by his performance.

Score: 8+7+7=22.

Talk show host Ricki Lake danced the Viennese Waltz with her partner Derek Hough. Bruno said they had great chemistry. Carrie Anne thought she looked like a beautiful princess. Len didn’t like her footwork but he enjoyed it overall.

Score: 7+6+7=20.

Author and activist Chaz Bono, who is also the first transgender contestant, performed the Cha Cha with his partner Cheryl Burke. Carrie Anne said he had great footwork and has so much joy when he dances. Len also noticed his excellent footwork and added that he had a great attitude. Bruno said it was cheeky but so cute and cuddly.

Score: 6+5+6=17.
