"Imprisoned Souls: New Zealand"

Napier Prison - Napier, New Zealand

The Napier Prison is the oldest, and certainly considered the most haunted, prison in New Zealand.  Although it now serves as a hostel, the building and surrounding area looks a bit lost in time. The outer former prison walls are unkept and the barracks used for housing are nothing more than a place to sleep.  Workers and visitors have been touched, pushed, and scratched and have reported seeing one of two men.  A prisoner named Roland Edwards, who was hung and buried at the prison for killing his family, may be the darkest spirit that roams the old prison grounds.  The prison had to hang him three times before he was officially killed.  Another prisoner, who was a native named Kereopa Te Rau, had hunted down a missionary named Reverend Karl Volkner, chopped off his head, scooped out the missionary's eyes, and ate them. Volkner had killed Rau's sister and two children but no reason was given to why he did this.  A woman staying at the hostel awoke one night to experience her bed shaking and then seeing a vision of Rau's tattooed face.  Doors are said to slam shut and objects float in the air and because of the amount of activity reported at night, the team would be spending the night at the hostel.

Barry FitzGerald and Kris Williams headed to the Infirmary where a man was said to get possessed and attacked by a female apparition.  Barry felt something touch his leg and mentioned seeing a small black apparition that quickly went away when he swung his camera in its direction.  Kris then felt something touching the top of her head to which Barry mentioned that it is a sign of disrespect in the native culture to touch someone on their head.  Something or someone did not want Kris around and she would experience this again later in the investigation.

Scott Tepperman and Joe Chin headed to a building called the "Escape Route," which really just serves as more bedrooms in the hostel.  One woman reported something pressing into her bed and then saying "I could have killed you if I wanted to."  They called out for the ghost of Roland Edwards and asked him to manipulate a couple of devices they left on the bed.  One of the lights flashed and Joe saw something tall shoot by the doorway.  They both jetted to the hallway but nothing was there and whatever had been, left. Next stop was "Cell 24" where a woman saw another woman get picked up and rotated out of her bed. As Scott and Joe were asking questions they were getting responses on their equipment to each question.  They doubled checked their devices to make sure there wasn't any interference and they found none.  Someone was trying to communicate with them.

Paul Bradford and Susan Slaughter headed to the Infirmary to see if they could back up the experiences that Barry and Kris had earlier in the investigation.  They started an EVP session and started to hear voices followed by a prison door opening.  This was followed by other noises that they could not explain. No other team members were in the area. They continued on with on with their EVP session and again the faint voices returned. Not long after this, Paul jumped out of the bed he was lying on after he felt he had been touched. They hoped some of this activity was caught on their recorders.

The team had a few additional pieces of evidence to show the caretaker of the hostel and did agree the former prison was haunted.
