So You Think You Can Dance Season 8

by Gina Scarpa

In the first week of So You Think You Can Dance, it's hard to predict who America will gravitate towards, though I have some ideas (cough cough Melanie and Marko). Tonight, they make their voices heard and will put three couples in danger of going home. Six will dance for their lives and, at the end of the hour, two will be eliminated from the competition.

When the Top 20 piece gets underway, my heart tells me it's Sonya Tayeh choreographing and I was most definitely correct. Nobody is as wonderfully weird as she is!

Cat wastes no time in letting Melanie and Marko know that they're safe, along with Missy and Wadi and Iveta and Nick.

Next, Jordan and Tad find out that they're the first couple in the bottom three. Ashley and Chris are safe and so is Caitlynn (who danced without Mitchell last night). Jes and Clarice are also in the bottom three, which is no surprise. Clarice hardly got any airtime in Vegas and let's just call Jes's personality is not everybody's cup of tea.

Keri Hilson hits the stage to perform "Lose Control" and then, it's on to more results. Ryan and Ricky and Sasha and Alexander are all safe, while Miranda and Robert are the final couple to be placed in the bottom.

As the dancers prepare for their solos, I predict we'll be losing Miranda and Mitchell tonight.

After being medically cleared to dance, Mitchell performs his solo with great technique but little emotion. Jordan shows off her power and sex appeal, while Tad gives us lots of energy and entertainment. Clarice takes Jordan's approach, hoping it will work for her too.

Jes gives us the showmanship that put him in the Top 20 in the first place. Miranda gives us something different: emotion and grace... and now, I'm second guessing my prediction for the girls. Why couldn't we have seen more of her before Top 20? Robert finishes off the solos, with a ton of personality and footwork.

While the judges deliberate, SYTYCD debuts Lady Gaga's new video, "Edge of Glory" - you know, that song you can't help singing in the car every time it's on the radio!

Nigel and the judges can't seem to come to a decision and they do something unprecented, asking Mitchell and Robert to dance one more time before saying anything else. Once they're done, Nigel decides to tell the girls their fate first. Wait, I take that back. The guys are now back with the girls. What is going on???

FINALLY, we find out that nobody is going home. They just couldn't decide to eliminate anyone... that means, though, that next week, two couples will go home.

Be sure to tune in when the Top 20 take the stage (again!) on So You Think You Can Dance, Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX.
