The Real Housewives of Washington D.C

by Chandra Clewley

The Real Housewives of DC is starting to get juicier this week with Stacie and Cat’s tension building along with Michaele’s tension with Lynda, Paul, and whoever else is around. First thing is first, how the heck do you SAY Michaele? Lynda calls her “mikayla” while Mary calls her “mikayl” so it’s anyone’s guess right now.

Cat is finishing up her book and is exhausted, she kind of picks a fight with her husband over it, and then picks a fight with the photographer who is doing her book shoot. As a matter of fact, Cat kind of picks fights about everything and is…well….a little *catty* one might say. Later, she tells Lynda her book is about falling out of love with her husband, falling in love with someone else’s husband and having “escapades”. Wow, that sounds quite off-putting for a puritanical nation. Let’s see how it is received.

Stacie goes wine tasting with her friends who own Sugarleaf Winery. She invites Michaele and Tareq and Tareq explains while wine tasting that if you “look between the legs you see when there is an arch…” hmmm…maybe he should re-word that. As a matter of fact, most wine makers would say the jury is still out on “legs” in general, especially when looking between them.  Stacie and Jason nod their heads while Michaele talks about red, white and blue color lines and then say they are planning to go to Paris to see Jason’s brother perform. This plants a seed in the Salahi’s mind, and they think they might go to Paris too.

Lynda and Mary attend a Saks Fifth Ave runway show, but mostly talk about how annoyed Lynda is with Tareq, who she thinks is pretty much suffocating Michaele. Mary and Rich are planning a little party for Ted Gibson, a hairstylist friend of theirs, and talk about the tension between Michaele and Lynda. Lynda is adamant that she does not want to be anywhere near the Salahi’s at Ted Gibson’s party

Paul talks to his party planner for the party last week, and she drops the bomb that the Salahi’s attorney had called and made her sign something stating that they would not be held financially responsible for anything even though they were HOSTING the party! Paul tells Mary who is appalled. Um, yeah!!! What the hell is that? You host a party you don’t pay for? Unless they thought that Bravo was picking up the tab, which is absolutely gauche! Poor Paul.

At Ted Gibson’s soiree, all the girls get their hair done and Stacie overhears all the talk about Michaele. After coming off a fun trip from Paris with the Salahi’s she is now starting to see that there is tension with them and the rest of the group, even though they all had a great time together. At the dinner party, Paul is there, and annoyed with Michaele. Lynda is there doing her best to ignore Michaele.

It’s really rich when Tareq talks about Michaele, who is most likely anorexic, eating an entire filet mignon and all the weight she has gained  since they have been married. Lynda is annoyed with Tareq and feels sorry for Michaele. Cat talks about the terrible white limo they show up in. Everyone is bashing them, although to be honest, they seem charming enough and viewers have not really had a reason to detest them yet, they are just kind of showy and seem to want the celebrity, like Heidi and Spencer Pratt before them on The Hills. To be honest, Tareq just seems like another one of those guys with a big personality that over-powers their wives sweet and meeker disposition.

Cat asks Stacie all about Paris, and is trying to warm her up after the tension between the two, but there is a statement about Cat being a “soul sister” and “Diana Ross” that comes from Lynda, and it goes over like a fart in church with Erika, Stacie and Mary’s friend, because Cat has come off as racist already. It is good that someone is calling her out, just so if it isn’t true, at least Cat can defend herself instead of it just being thought of her behind her back. She pulls Paul away from the table to defend herself and he seems cool about it.

So far, though, I personally have seen some weird racist tensions ALL OVER THE PLACE on Real Housewives of DC, from Michaele’s odd comment about Obama getting the “red and blue” people together to make them “red, white and blue” to Mary’s mention to Stacie that she and Ted Gibson were going to really hit it off. This Diana Ross statement is just one of MANY awkward “white person” comments that are uncomfortable and weird. So far, the best part about Real Housewives of DC has been the awkward micro look at a very racially diverse and divided city where African American’s make up well over 50% of the city’s population, even though they are not so equally represented on this television show for some reason, unbeknownst to me.
