Project Runway Season 8

by Lindsay Strouse

After the craziness that occurred last week on Project Runway, I'm a little scared to see what the designers are going to do with their scissors this week.

After Ivy's medical scare, she is taken to the hospital where the doctors' rule her condition as dehydration. It's frightening to see how intense the competition can get and how sometimes people can forget health needs to come first.

In the morning, Heidi meets with the designers to inform them of their next challenge. The models come out wearing Philip Treacy hats which are truly breathtaking works of art.

The designers must create a look to wear with one of Philip Tracy's hats. Because Andy won last week's challenge, he gets to pick his hat first. Every designer decides to stick with the same model-some choose their model thinking of the challenge at hand while others decide to put loyalty to their model first.

The contestants begin sketching right away and the ideas begin flowing. After hearing and seeing some of the concepts, I'm really excited to see what these guys are going to come up with!

Everyone heads off to Mood to choose the fabrics that will best complete their look. Ivy decides to use some of the fabrics she saw at the hospital to inspire her design. Hm, never thought I would see a hospital inspiring a beautiful runway look.

Once the designers start working, Casanova talks of his doubts in his ability to keep taking critique in the competition. I love Casanova, but can you say DIVA?

Kristin is at a loss with what to do with her orchid hat until she remembers her wedding day where she herself wore orchids in her hair. She decides to create a look that inspires romance.

Tim doesn't see the purpose in Valerie's design and thinks April's booty shorts are reminiscent of a diaper. Ooh, sexy!

When Tim heads over to Kristin's station he sees how lost she is in her design. He once again is crazy about Christopher's fabric-hopefully it'll land him in the top this time!

Tim knocks Casanova off his pedestal (how he is still on a pedestal after these past few weeks, I have no idea). His concern is the dress is SO wearable it isn't worthy of a Philip Treacy hat. Zoom in to Casanova's infamous clueless face.

With 5 hours remaining, Michael C. decides to take Tim's advice and create an entire new look. However, a reassuring conversation with his son puts Michael more at ease.

The morning of the fashion show, some of the designers are relaxed as they put the finishing touches on their looks while the others run around with craze, worry and stress written all over their faces.

Everyone seems to think April and her diaper are heading home. Can't say I disagree. After seeing so many worried faces, I'm starting to think maybe the designers should spend less time gossiping and more time focusing on their own work.

It's time to head down to the runway and there is no time to spare. Joining the judges on the panel tonight is hat extraordinaire himself, Philip Treacy.

Kristin's outfit looks awkward and quite frankly, unfinished. Sorry, I feel no love in the air tonight. I didn't see the connection between A.J.'s outfit and the hat (although the dress is adorable!). Ivy's dress is beautifully done, clean cut and looks great with the hat.

And then comes the diaper. And some cheeks. April, yikes, girl. When Casanova's model comes down the runway, I'm surprised to say I would totally wear it!

April, Michael D., Christopher, Michael C., Valerie and Kristin are called forward. This means Gretchen, Peach, Andy, Mondo, Ivy, A.J. and Casanova are all safe for another week.

I'm crossing my fingers that my boy Christopher won this challenge-the safe designers in back seem to think the same. I'm not infatuated or anything...

Michael D. explains his inspiration of the "warrior/farmer-esque" hat and how it led him to a sun-inspired design. The judges see no correlation between Kristin's dress and hat and I completely agree.

The judges surprisingly didn't respond well to Christopher's design and thought it was too dark for his hat. I'm also taken aback that Michael C. got rave reviews from the judges after creating a design in so little time.

There is no escaping April's ill-fitting panty design although the judges do seem to like the top. I personally love Valerie's fire red dress paired with the lacy black mask and the judges agree.

Michael C. is the winner of the challenge, and is joined by Michael D. and Valerie on the safe side of the runway. And people are PISSED (about the winner, that is). Christopher and April are safe, leaving us to say goodbye to Kristin. I gotta say, I think the judges were a little off base this week in their picks.
