The Real Housewives of New York City Season 3

by Chandra Clewley

Thursday night’s The Real Housewives of New York was a lesson in contradictions.  Get comfortable, this is a long one! We start off at LuAnn’s Cocktails & Couture party at Sonja’s home.  LuAnn gets ready at Sonja’s which must mean at this point in taping, she has yet to find her Pied a Terre in the city. It’s cute because LuAnn is ready right on time, which is so “mannerly” and Sonja is running late which is so “fashionable.” Fitting, right?

As LuAnn gets downstairs, Alex shows up. LuAnn decides to “barge in” on Alex’s fight with Jill, and asks why she “barged in” on the Bethenny/Jill fight, why she delivered it the way she did, and did she regret it? Alex is kind of annoyed with the whole “barging in” thing, and says it is none of LuAnn’s business, but says she was past the point of no return with Jill and had to deliver the message. Plus there are things that are not about Bethenny that Alex takes issue with Jill about.

Kelly and Jill show up and Kelly is super confused about where to put her clothes and if she is supposed to put her name on them. Maybe she wants a receipt for her taxes? Sonja thinks there is some tension between Jill and Alex but says “Who wants to have a boring party?” LuAnn runs to Jill and whispers that she confronted Alex about the bomb she dropped and “barges in” a little more about Alex “barging in”. Jill says hi to Alex. Alex says hi back. Ramona and Mario show up with their clothes while Sonja and Jill are talking about Sonja’s desire for lipo. During this time, Jill is ignoring Alex. Bobby asks to speak to Alex and “barges in” and asks Alex why she would speak to Jill the way she did. Alex says she needs to speak directly to Jill and he encourages her to.

Later, Jill cries to Kelly about how big the argument with Bethenny has become and how she never expected it to be this big. Kelly thinks that it was the delivery from Alex and not Bethenny that makes it seem so final. Jill says she needs to get out of the party, and as she leaving, Alex asks if she wants to talk and in typical closed off fashion Jill says there is nothing to say and she doesn’t want to talk.  So, just like her argument with Bethenny, Jill prolongs and magnifies an easily amendable argument had she not run away!

Bethenny and Jason are going to LA to see her dad. She calls Ramona on the way to JFK since Ramona has just gone through the loss of her father. Ramona reiterates that the fact that her father has reached out to her is huge and that it is Bethenny’s opportunity for closure with him. Bethenny is crying and Ramona is super present, she tells Bethenny to take a breath and that this is a good thing. With all the good things that are going on in her life, such as Jason, and the baby, she needs to have closure with her father.  Ramona says that she needs to face the fear in order to move through it, which is such great advice compared to just staying positive and not being realistic. After Bethenny sees her father, she feels like this is the hand that she was dealt and now she doesn’t have to look at the cards anymore.  Jason is there with her and is awesome!

Gotham Magazine is throwing a party for Kelly and all the trendsetters that she photographed on the streets. Gotham Magazine throws a lot of parties! Jennifer Gilbert and Jill are already there when Kelly arrives. Alex and Simon are on their way, and Alex asks Simon to be her wingman. She wants nothing to do with her. LuAnn shows up with a date, Coerte, who undresses Kelly with his eyes when he meets her! Yikes! Simon sits down with Jill which annoys Alex. Jill says hello and kisses Alex on the cheek. Alex is so annoyed with how hypocritical Jill is and leaves.

Ramona tries on wedding gowns and looks AMAZING!!!! She also wants to find something special for her daughter, Avery, who is still very camera shy, annoyed with her mom and especially embarrassed of her braces! She reminds me of me and so many other girls at her age! Later, Ramona invites Sonja and Jill to invite them to her all girls trip before she renews her vows. Jill is hesitant to go, but Ramona is adamant that she come. Jill says she will do the best she can, but never promises that she will go.

LuAnn invites Jill, Kelly and Sonja to the spa and they have a heart to heart about the pain of divorce. Everyone owns up to the anxiety of being a single mother and alone, missing their spouse etc. except for Jill who doesn’t chime in at all even though she has been through it too.

Jennifer invites the girls for a cocktail party. Kelly and Jill show up first.  LuAnn shows and then Ramona. Ramona says she got an upsetting email and that Bethenny’s father passed away.  Jill gets upset with her because she texted her and Ramona didn’t respond. Ramona says she was swamped and didn’t read her phone until just then, but Jill won’t back down. Jill is really upset, even though she told Bethenny that they were done, on no uncertain terms, several times.  Why is Jill so upset? Ramona says she didn’t want to ‘’barge in” and is getting attacked by Jill.

Ramona: If she wanted you to know she would have told you.

Jill: It doesn’t matter; you know we have a history. How do you not tell me that? You know how long I have been friends with Bethenny!

Ramona: Why don’t you call? Pick up the phone! Last time you spoke to her you said “get out of my life” and then you hung up on her and made her cry!

Jill: You and Alex should have told me. If you were my friend you would have told me.

Ramona has had enough of Jill at this point and wants to know why it always has to be about her? For goodness sakes, Bethenny’s father just died!  So, Jill is really pissed that Ramona didn’t “barge in” and tell Jill about Bethenny’s dad.

For the record: Alex did tell her. In Brooklyn, when she visited her and Alex suggested Jill clear it up with Bethenny and she was having issues with her dad. Jill said that she didn’t think Bethenny and Bethenny’s father had a relationship and swept it away with little thought.

Jill cries in the pantry with Kelly, and while in there, Sonja shows up, and LuAnn sabotages Ramona and “barges in.” Ramona thinks that Jill and Bethenny might have made up at Ramona’s party, had LuAnn not pulled Jill away.

Alex shows to the “party” just in time to yell at Jill some more. Jill says that Alex looks beautiful and Alex says that she got Jill’s text message from earlier. Apparently she texted Alex that Bethenny’s father died. Alex is appalled by it, and says she hasn’t heard from her and then she texts her gossip. Alex is adamant that she is going to tell Jill her side, but Jill keeps interrupting her. “You are so good at pretending you are nice, you are doing it right now, you are smiling, but the first text I get from you is ‘Did you hear Bethenny’s father died?’ Can you stop talking for a second? I don’t want to hear what you think it wrong with my children, I don’t want to hear what you think is wrong with my house....et al.” And on and on. Jill is unresponsive and Alex finally leaves.

Next week all hell breaks loose on Ramona’s “girl’s trip” and LuAnn sings for the first time!
