The Bachelor: On The Wings of Love

by David McAlpine

Last week on The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love, pilot Jake Pavelka, who had his heart broken by former Bachelorette Jillian, began his own journey to find love and met 25 of his newest suitors. Some women dressed the part while others relied on their charm to get by. By the end of the night, Jake cut down the field by 10, leaving 15 ladies in the battle for his heart.

Gia, Rozlyn, Valishia, Corrie, Christian and Ashleigh all get to go on the first date, which is described by the card, "A picture is worth a thousand words." While they're all squealing, I'm left wondering how one of the most used adages in the English language could ever give anyone a good idea of what they were doing. Some of them admit to being confused, but there's really no time for that, as Jake arrives to whisk the girls away.

They get to (surprise!) a photo shoot for InStyle magazine, which gets everyone all the more excited. Well, everyone except Christina, who quietly pouts about Rozlyn and Gia being professional models. I guess she meant professional stripper for Rozlyn, because within minutes, her leg is caught on Jake's waist and she's flashing everyone her lady parts. All Christina can do is gag until it's her turn in front of the camera. Jake can see she's nervous, so he flatters the hell out of her, and she melts in his hands.

Cue the party, where the rose and an automatic bye into the next round is up for grabs. Jake and Gia start talking about past relationships, but Ashleigh busts out the bikini and lures him into the pool. The girls follow and mobbing of the Bachelor ensues.

Flash back to the mansion, where a diamond necklace is delivered for the lucky lady who has a one-on-one date with Jake…but no name is given. You can see the fire in everyone's eyes, but only Michelle has the balls to try and try it on, promptly stopped by the rest of the contestants.

Back at the hotel, Christina is piss drunk and Jake isn't having it. Rozlyn lets her boobs almost fall out of her bikini and draws Jake out of the pool and into her sexy orange blanket. She goes in for the kiss and, again, he's left visibly uncomfortable, providing for his exit to go grab the rose. Surprise, Rozlyn gets it, showing that slutting it up at the beginning does get you somewhere.

Back to the mansion, where the ladies learn that Ali will have the first one-on-one date with Jake. She hops on the back of his motorcycle and he takes her to (where else?) and airport. Yes, the girl who's deathly afraid of flying is going to be helped by the Bachelor tonight whether she likes it or not. And, to her credit, she handles it really well.

Jake and Ali sit down to dinner and he starts asking the hard hitting questions right away. It seems like Ali has had her share of past boyfriends, many of whom have names that start with the letter J, which is good news for Jake. Better news for Ali: Jake likes her and wants her to have the rose from their date. They slow dance to a private concert by the band Chicago and call it a night.

Vienna, Kathryn, Ashley, Jessie and Elizabeth are all invited on date number two, when they head to Six Flags. Elizabeth scoops up Jake first to play some carnival games and have some super-possessive talk about kissing and being intimate. The worst part? Jake falls for it. Typical.

But the crazy doesn't stop there. Vienna decides Elizabeth has had too much attention and decides she needs to tell Jake her secret. Apparently she eloped at 18 with the son of a preacher man and got divorced four months later. Out of nowhere, Ashley appears and tries to kiss Jake but he says no, instead giving that kiss and a rose to Elizabeth.

It's finally cocktail party time, where Ella gets a belated birthday present from Jake: a cupcake. Tenley, who also didn't get a date, is trying to stay calm, even though she can't bring herself to tell Jake about her divorce in the past. Then, Jake has to console Michelle who started packing because she didn't get a date earlier that day.

But wait, the insanity is just beginning. Chris Harrison invites Rozlyn outside and drops the biggest bomb ever on the show: she had an "inappropriate relationship" with a staffer and she's getting kicked out. He sounds dead serious and borderline upset…while Rozlyn stands there, saying nothing. She doesn't try to defend herself, she just says she's not going to say anything to put herself in a bad position. Ouch.

After Rozlyn leaves, Chris tells Jake, who is upset, then angry and asks for his rose back. Of course, because he's the Bachelor, he gets what he wants, then he and Chris break the news to the girls (none of whom went to go help Rozlyn pack). Jake starts to cry, then other girls start to cry at the sight of him crying and the rose ceremony becomes one weeping mess.

After all the hysterics are over, Jake starts handing out the roses, 12 in total. Ali and Elizabeth already have theirs, leaving 12 ladies for 10 roses. In the end, Christina (who couldn't hold her liquor) and Ashley (who couldn't turn on Jake outside of being in a flight attendant suit 24/7) are left without flowers, eliminating them from the competition.

Tune in the next week to see more dates on the next episode of the Bachelor, only on ABC Mondays at 9/8c.
