The Glee Project Season 2

by Gina Scarpa

When Robert Ulrich showed up to deliver this week's challenge of Tenacity on The Glee Project, he wasn't kidding. Those contestants had no idea what they were in for at the video shoot but first, they have a homework assignment and have to perform Destiny's Child's "Survivor" for Robert and guest mentor Amber Riley (Mercedes!) Amber wasn't really a fan of Abraham's performance, and felt Lily wasn't connecting to the song. Aylin and Ali were the standouts with Ali winning her second challenge in a row.

The song for the video is "Eye Of The Tiger" by Survivor and it really doesn't sit well in anyone's range. Blake and Shanna did the best, with Nikki not being able to sing their praises enough. Abraham sang flat while Michael put on some weird, growly voice that was definitely not working. When it came time for them to sing as a group, Aylin commented that Lily was singing too loud, which seriously offended her. I mean, SERIOUSLY. There are so many worse things a person can say but being called loud really derailed Lily for basically the rest of the episode.

I'm not afraid to say it. The video shoot was hands down the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life. It was clear that Erik, Zach, and Robert were out to break the contestants if at all possible. Basically, the video was filmed in a single shot in a gymnasium with the performers running through a seemingly impossible obstacle course. If one of them messed up, they had to start again. OVER 30 TAKES LATER, they finally finished but not before Abraham twisted his ankle, Shanna almost puked in a trash can, and Ali broke down because she couldn't shoot a basketball behind her and land it in the basket. A double dutch sequence with Aylin, Lily, Abraham, and Michael was particularly difficult and forced everyone to start over many times.

There's no need for Ali, Shanna, or Blake to worry. The mentors were impressed with them all week and all three are called back. Aylin's tears dry quickly when she finds out that she's also called back which leaves Abraham, Lily, and Michael in the bottom three.

Michael - "Brick" by Ben Folds Five
First of all, I'm going to be biased because he's singing one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists. I'll overlook the fact that he called them THE Ben Folds Five, but he clearly doesn't know what the song is about because if he did, he wouldn't be smiling at any point during it. The mentors thought he was charming and really enjoyed his performance but sometimes, I wish they'd just say it like it is.

Abraham - "Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson
Abraham is in an emotional downward spiral. While practicing the song, he could not contain his tears and then used his ankle as an excuse when Ryan said he didn't seem as focused. Was he listening earlier when Amber said she pushed through having stress fractures in her feet?

Lily - "I'm The Greatest Star" from Funny Girl
I don't mind Lily when she's not singing her own praises or acting like a diva. The truth is, she really IS funny and plays it up when she's on stage. She definitely used that last chance performance to show that she's fighting to stay and the mentors took notice.

As the mentors talk things over with Ryan, Abraham comes charging onto the stage and interrupts them. He lets them know that he's not freakin' going home... except, he is. When the callback list is posted, it's his name that's listed under Not Called Back. Do you think it was because of his outburst?
