The Voice Season 2: Live Semifinals

by Todd Betzold

Weeks and weeks of auditions and battles and live performances on The Voice have led us here...one step away from the final show and eight singers left (two from each team) battling it out to be crowned winner of Season 2.

How it works tonight: all eight semifinalists will perform tonight...at the end of the show, the coaches will give them a score based on tonight's performances and America will vote. America's votes plus the coaches' scores will determine which four will move on to the finals and which four will go home.

Tony Lucca (Team Adam) - "How You Like Me Now?" by The Heavy
I like you a lot right now Tony! That performance gave me goosebumps...it was so good. It was fun, the production onstage was excellent and it was just great to watch. He sang amazing and he showed why he is a frontrunner to win this whole thing...awesome job. Blake said he doesn't know the song, but glad he doesn't because that's the version I would like...that was badass. Christina enjoyed it and babbled on. Cee Lo said it was a very nice job and he became a fan of him tonight. Adam said this was the perfect thing at the perfect moment...he loved it.

Erin Willett (Team Blake) - "Without You" by David Guetta featuring Usher
Okay, so I am thinking I am going to have goosebumps all night long...these are such great singers and at a crucial moment of the show and bringing on the emotion into the song. Erin looked beautiful and sang just as beautiful and with so much emotion...she breaks down at the end (I'm sure thinking of her father). Christina gave her props for singing her own rendition of the song and proud of her. Cee Lo she looked beautifully and sang beautifully. Blake said he would give anything to have 1/10th of the talent she has...her singing is unbelievable, but more than that I would give anything to have the strength you have.

Chris Mann (Team Christina) - "Ava Maria" by Luciano Pavarotti
So, opera is totally not my thing, but it is Chris' thing and he did it very well. It looked effortless and it was enjoyable, but can an opera singer win The Voice? Cee Lo said his voice is so powerful and so pure...stellar performance. Adam said it is cool to have all these eclectic performances and be a spectator. Christina felt so moved and humbled by his performance...to give a classic song like that justice and to get her stage time, she goes and gives him a hug.

Jamar Rogers (Team Cee Lo) - "If You Don't Know Me By Now" by Simply Red
Bring on the tears...he totally made that his own song with a very different rendition and I enjoyed it. I have enjoyed him more with his other performances, but you just have to love this guy. Adam said forget about the competition and he is just purely a fan of him. Christina said she got motivated to start singing...love it. Cee Lo said he wanted him to do something more intimate...his story is a story of success.

To fill the two hours, we get to see Team Adam and Team Cee Lo join forces on a performance of "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers...very good performance and I love all four of them.

Jermaine Paul (Team Blake) - "Open Arms" by Journey
Another favorite in the competition showing America why he is considered that...this guy is beyond amazing and has a voice that melts you. Christina said you are a crazy, talented vocalist...I think you killed it. Cee Lo said he loves to hear a strong male vocal...you did a wonderful job and I am consistently impressed with you. Adam wanted to congratulate him...he is no longer a background singer. Blake said every time he comes on the stage he separates himself a little more from the competition...he is peaking at the right time.

Katrina Parker (Team Adam) - "Killing Me Softly" by The Fugees
She looked absolutely beautiful tonight as well and this song was the perfect choice for her voice...I loved hearing her sing this song. I have gone back and forth with Katrina this whole season, but this song won me over big time...she can sing. Blake said your voice has a quality to it that is so seasoned...awesome tone to it. Christina said she has truly fallen in love with her over this competition...she told Adam to take a look at Katrina Parker...she is a star. Adam said at the end of the day you didn't sound like Lauryn Hill, you sounded like Katrina Parker and I am proud of you.

Another time-filler, we get to see coach Blake Shelton sing his newest single, "Over." Fun, but let's get to these semifinalists!

Lindsey Pavao - "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver
Lindsey always does well on the iTunes charts...this I am sure will be right up there with the rest of them. She is just so unique and different, just like Bon Iver is. I am not familiar with this song, but I loved Lindsey singing it...I loved her voice and her tone...very good. Cee Lo said he doesn't really know about skinny love...he's more into big love...played very confidently tonight. Adam said everyone is just so different...anyone of you guys can reign victorious and I love the show. Blake said it was really good and he has to give it up to Christina to take it back to the beginning in what made us love this girl. Christina said it was so great and I loved seeing you in a coffee shop setting and of course, a hug for her as well.

One more time-filler before we get to the last singer of the night...this time it is Team Christina and Team Blake joining forces as they perform "Edge Of Glory" by Lady Gaga...another fun performance.

Juliet Simms (Team Cee Lo) - "It's A Man's World" by James Brown
I do not like Cee Lo's team...both Juliet and Jamar are so freakin' amazing and I don't want either of them to go home. I hate that they have to compete against each other...they both should win. This performance is beyond over-the-top...I love it. Juliet is a rocker and has such an awesome voice...this gave me goosebumps...beyond good. Adam said that was something special...all of us were captured in that moment...you're the one to beat tonight. Christina said you sing for you and I love you for that. Cee Lo said you killed it...you murdered it.

Now the coaches have 100 points to give between their two team members, but we will not find out how they divided them until tomorrow night!

Who will go home? Find out when The Voice airs tomorrow at 9/8c on NBC.
