Top Chef: Texas - Reunion

by Gina Scarpa

The Top Chef: Texas reunion brings back all of the cheftestants from this season along with judges Gail Simmons, Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, Emeril Lagasse, and Hugh Acheson, who I will now always refer to as the Hughnibrow!

We start things off with our winner, Paul Qui. One of the best parts of taking the title of Top Chef was that he got to see how proud his parents were of him and he's been waiting for that for a long time! He finished the competition with $185,00, a trip to Costa Rica, and a brand new Prius. Not bad, my friend. Not bad at all.

The attention shifts to runner up Sarah, and footage is shown of her completely breaking down after Paul was announced the winner of the finale. Host Andy Cohen reveals that a member of production says Sarah told Emeril to "f off" but she swears it never happened and that it's crappy that it was brought up now.

There are some viewer questions, where Richie says he liked the format of the first episode, where the 29 finalists had to cook their way into earning a Top Chef jacket and a spot in the competition. Beverly is asked about her emotions but she says that helps her put better food on the plate and apparently, there's some kind of flirtiness happening between Malibu (Chris C) and Grayson but neither will admit to any type of relationship.

The debate surrounding Last Chance Kitchen is rehashed once again: was it fair or not? Was Nyesha screwed because she had to switch ingredients with Beverly? Ed definitely feels like he got shafted, considering he was eliminated after Beverly came back. We're shown a half naked photo of Ty-Lor for no apparent reason, and then montages of Chris C to explore whether or not he's in love with himself, and the weirdness of Chris Jones.

Ninety percent of the viewer questions that came in for the reunion were about Beverly and the way she was treated. Lindsay and Sarah did both apologize to Bev before the reunion but Heather refuses to, even after Andy asks her if she feels like she should. She stands behind everything she says, even her slam about Bev's work ethic. At least Beverly has made peace with it all and Gail compliments her for handling it all with a lot of class and grace. True story!

After a montage of some of the lighter, funnier moments from the season, the reunion ends before we can find out who won fan favorite. That was announced during Watch What Happens Live later in the evening but I can tell you that it went to Malibu, who promoted himself shamelessly to get that title.  Who was your favorite chef?
