MasterChef Season 2

by Todd Betzold

It is anything but child's play on tonight's episode of MasterChef.

It's team challenge time, as the competitors head to an L.A. neighborhood for the MasterChef Block Party. The guests of honor, and also the judges for the challenge, will be 200 children. The competitors will have two hours to make a stunning slider and a side for them. However, they will not be able to use beef or potatoes for the dishes.

The captains first choose their teams, with Christian choosing Adrien, Derrick and Jennifer for the Blue Team and Christine choosing Tracy, Ben and Suzy for the Red Team.

The teams decide on menus for the meal, with Christian calling the shots for the Blue Team and going with a turkey burger with cheese, catsup, mustard and pickles with a side of apple sticks with caramel dipping sauce. The Read Team works as a team to come up with their menu of a chicken nugget slider and fried corn fritters.

Chef Ramsay is not happy with the Red Team's menu stating it is unhealthy and won't go well with the kids, but they beg to differ. Kids love junk food, so they are going with it.

Members of the Blue Team have issues with the mustard on the burgers, but Christian will not back down on his original idea.

Meanwhile, Jennifer is making the caramel sauce and Christian comes over and stirs it when she tells him not to. This makes it crystallize and the sauce is a train wreck.

Joe and Graham are worried the Red Team's sliders are going to be very dry, but Ben says with the sauce on them they will be just fine.

The kids arrive and the teams start serving their dishes. The Blue Team is on top of things and getting the plates to the kids in an orderly fashion. The Red Team is falling behind and the kids start chanting and screaming for their food. They get things caught up and everyone gets served their food.

Mixed reviews from the kids after eating both the dishes, with some liking one team and others liking the other team. They have them vote for which team they like better and the winner of the team challenge, in a 2-to-1 vote, is the Red Team (Christian has been taken down)!!!

The Blue Team now faces the Pressure Test, which this week is the hardest test in MasterChef history, when the competitors have to make a cheese soufflé. They have 90 minutes and can make as many soufflés as they want, but can only present one to the judges.

There is a lot of tension between Christian and Jennifer during this test, with Jennifer not backing down to Christian's arrogance. Some trash talking by both of them, but the judges will decide in the end who to send home.

Christian is the first one to serve up his soufflé. Chef Ramsay says that it visually has impact and smells great. All the judges taste with no response after.

Adrien serves up his first batch as well and again, the judges have no comments after tasting. Jennifer likes her first batch and serves it up with no comments from the judges as well after tasting it.

Derrick is the only one to do two batches and goes right to the very end of the 90 minutes before serving up his soufflé. No comments from the judges, yet again, as they taste it.

The judges discuss and come up with their decision based solely on the soufflé. Chef Ramsay states Jennifer did the eggs justice in this pressure test, unlike the last pressure test and she is safe. He says Derrick was the only one to cook two batches, but the second one was delicious and he is safe.

We are down to Christian and Adrien. Who would have thought one of these two would go home? Chef Ramsay tells Adrien to take his apron upstairs because he is safe. Cheers from the gallery as everyone thinks Christian is going home. Chef Ramsay says that his soufflé was also delicious and he is safe as well.

All four of the soufflés were wonderful, so no one was sent home. Now what will happen...will we see two competitors sent home tomorrow night?
