The Real Housewives of New York City Season 4

by Mike Bandy

This week's episode of RHONYC began with Luann meeting up with Kelly at Salon A.K.S. for pedicures. She's getting to know Kelly a lot better. The women talked about men and breakups, and how Kelly doesn't want to date, she just wants to find a husband. Luann invited Kelly to a wine connection that her boyfriend, Jacques, is having. There'd be a lot of Europeans there, and she thought that would be interesting for Kelly. Why? Are European guys somehow less jerky than Americans? That has not been my experience, but whatever!

Alex met up with Sonja for lunch in order to try to mend their friendship. Sonja showed up in yoga clothes and some sort of Russian fur hat that looked like a small woodland creature on top of her head. Alex was very diplomatic and said that she doesn't think they'll ever agree, but that they should move on and not talk about it again. Sonja brought up Simon again, and said that she would not deal with Alex's husband again. Simon is a trigger for Alex, but she kept her cool and didn't let it faze her. I am REALLY digging Alex this season.

Cindy met up with Kelly for dinner, and the former was really upset over having to fire one of her nannies. Meanwhile, Kelly talked about an event that Ramona was being honored at, and she didn't want to attend. She composed what she thought was a polite e-mail to Ramona explaining that she couldn't make it, and Cindy had to help her with her wording. I'm not sure the woman can read, actually. If someone could verify that and get back to me, I'd totally appreciate it.

Speaking of Crazy Eyes, she was over at designer David Meister's with Sonja. She was getting ready for yet another runway event, and wanted some modeling tips. She told Sonja about Kelly's e-mail stating that she couldn't make it to her event, and how she sent her an e-mail back saying, "If you can't support me, don't expect me to support you!". A bit harsh, perhaps, but not untrue.

LuAnn was front and center with Jacques at the wine connection event, and Kelly, Sonja, and Cindy came to join in the fun. Most of it was just awkward - Cindy talked to a dude who had five kids, Sonja met a nice guy that didn't work out with Kelly very well, and Kelly met an actor whom she forced to act out a scene with her. Trust me on this; I'm not leaving anything out. That was as interesting as it got.

The next day, Alex and Simon, children in tow, were on a boat headed out to Governor's Island, for what was to be Alex's birthday celebration, not that we figured it out right away. Kelly and Cindy attended as well, with their children, and Kelly told Cindy about Ramona's text, which Kelly found hysterically funny. Once they arrived at the party, they found it to be kind of an odd concoction.

There were a bunch of picnic tables, not a ton of people, champagne, and I think I saw one platter of food. Kelly and Cindy both thought it was odd and bowed out early, but Alex proclaimed that Simon's plans went off without a hitch, and it was a great birthday. I feel like we seriously missed something...that couldn't have been her actual birthday party, could it? It was so lame!

It's time for Ramona's runway return! Alex, Simon, and Sonja made amends with an awkward group hug initiated by Simon, and Luann showed up to support as well. As it turned out, Ramona's runway walk was a little bit better, but not by much, and the eyes were only a little less crazy. I'm not sure what it is she thinks models do...but it's not that, Ramona. It's not that.

Next we got to see Cindy at her salon, where she invited Luann, Sonja, and Kelly for a spa day. No surprise here: Luann was a prude about everything, Sonja was completely comfortable (perhaps TOO comfortable?), and Kelly was weirded out. Let's move on.

Alex did a photo shoot with photographer Mark Veltman, and she didn't really perform that well. The photographer sighed a lot, and didn't like what she was doing with her eyes. Personally, I liked it. I thought she looked fantastic in a black and white dress and big crazy hair. Now, did I agree with her wearing big crazy hair to Ramona's event immediately following the photo shoot? No. The other women didn't agree with it either, and made a point of telling her so when she arrived.

Ramona was being honored as the Celebrity Entrepreneur of the Year at the Women's Venture Fund event, which was for women who own their own businesses. She had to give a speech and she was nervous about that. Before everyone was seated for dinner, Ramona made a comment that Luann said she couldn't attend because she had to be with her kids, and Avery scoffed at that and said, "She says that every time you have something."

When it came time for Ramona to give her speech, she was understandably nervous, but I thought she did very well. She talked about how hard it was to only have a two year degree and start her business, and how she struggled, but she's done very well for herself. The evening ended on a happy note, with a toast, undoubtedly of Ramona Pinot Grigio.

Jill has been in Australia, apparently without a camera crew, and that's making me think about what this show would be like without her. I kinda like it. What do you guys think?
