The Real World: New Orleans

by Gina Scarpa

Last night, on The Real World: New Orleans, Mardi Gras continues to reign supreme and the roomies head out to participate in one of the many parades going on. Ashlee and Preston get some coverage for WWOZ and everyone throws beads, feeling like rock stars. Some throw beads for compliments, some throw for food (hey, they're hungry!), and of course, some throw to see boobs. You know who you are.

The next day, Ryan and Preston decide to call yet another truce. Whether or not this will last remains to be seen. Something tells me these two are just waiting to have it out with one another.

Everyone heads out for a night of drinking and, of course, McKenzie doesn't know her limit which means that she needs to be babysat at all times. Yet another sketchy guy preys on her, prompting the girls to step in and try to pull her away. How many times can you try to help someone who basically tells you to "f off" every time you do? She'll usually come to her senses but not before fighting you about it. Who has the patience for that?

Even though things are going well with Jemmye and Knight, she still has very strong feelings for her man, Kodi, back home. When they talk on the phone, though, he seems extremely distant and uninterested in what she has to say. Jemmye wonders if she's on Team Kodi or Team Knight but after this episode, I have a feeling that she doesn't really have a choice anymore.

McKenzie feels that she could have found a great guy in Travis... who is only here for Spring Break... but hey, whatever. He seems nice enough. Meanwhile, the games between Jemmye and Knight continue. He attempts to invite a girl over after a night at the bar, and tells Jemmye to go see Kodi, who is coming to town for a basketball game. After having it out, Knight lays it on the line, tells her to take of her baggage, and then they'll figure out what's going to happen between them.

Jemmye decides to head to the game and takes Ashlee for moral support. When she sees Kodi afterwards, he barely acts like he knows her. To make matters worse, his family is not exactly acting like the welcome wagon. Time to leave, Jemmye. Get outta there - quick!

While out at the bars, McKenzie runs into Travis again, who tells her that he doesn't drink that much because he would rather remember things than not after going through a blacking out phase. What a coincidence that he meets ‘Kenzie! Instead of their encounter being about being drunk and hooking up, he leaves a big impact on her.

You may remember that the last time Preston and Ashlee covered something for WWOZ, they didn't actually record anything. This time around, after trying to cover a Mardi Gras parade, they realize that they lost their recorder. Instead of being fired, they get another chance and hopefully, the third time will be the charm for them.

It's Fat Tuesday in New Orleans and that means that it's absolute mayhem!  Jemmye and Knight manage to find a quiet moment in a bar, where she opens up about her past abusive relationship.  Knight is very upset by what he hears and promises to always protect her. She's never told anyone about it so she definitely gets a lot of respect for being brave enough to tell her story.
