Big Brother Season 12

by Sandhurst Miggins

Matt's decision to nominate Kathy and Andrew for eviction this week on Big Brother came as a shock to a lot of the housemates, but none of them were as shocked as his own alliance, the Brigade. I think the power is going to Matt's head just a bit or he's definitely more of a genius than we think. Kathy pulls Matt aside to tell him the ole' "I wasn't gunning for you" speech and Matt basically says, "I didn't know that I just received your vote." What else was he going to say Kathy? "Oh damn! That changes everything!"?

Andrew seems to be the more upset between the two nominees and though, the housemates were once suspicious of his actions, Hayden and Kristen come tell Andrew if they win POV, they will take him off of the block so that they can backdoor Brachel. This turns out to be the main focus of the Brigade for the entire episode. Um... if Brendon was the target, why not put both Rachel and Brendon up in the first place, Matt? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through doing it this way.

It's time to choose players for the POV competition and the Brigade is hoping that Brachel is shut out from playing. First up is the HOH. Matt picks Brendon, Kathy picks Lane, and Andrew picks Rachel. Yeah Matt, Lady Luck hates the Brigade. Enzo is chosen as the host.

The Brigade hopes for a non-science related challenge. While watching the viewing screen in the HOH room, Lane, Enzo, and Matt look on as Andrew completes his daily prayers. Lane states he didn't know that Jewish people wore ninja costumes while they pray. Come on America, you need to forgive him for this one due to a lack of exposure. This episode proves to be the most of Lane speaking that we have seen all season as he continues to prove that he's a true Texan with a long speech about his love of beer and shooting randomly at glowing eyes in trees.

The Veto competition is entitled Veto of Fortune. They have ten minutes to look at all the items in the yard and get familiar with them. At each station, there is a small amount of an item next to a large amount of it. The challengers must guess by the look of the smaller amount just how many are in the larger set. After everyone reveals their estimation, they have the choice to stay or fold. Each time a guest comes closest to the amount they win a point. They need three points to win the POV.

Rachel reveals that she's trying to predict if Brendon will play to stay or fold then do the opposite so that they won't eliminate each other, which proves to be a very smart strategy as the game unfolds. The competition begins and Lane is out first and Matt is eliminated next, followed by Kathy. In the final round, both Andrew and Brendon have 2 points with Rachel at zero. It all comes down to fish eyeballs. Big Brother shows them what 3 eyeballs look like and then they are forced to guess how many are in the vase. Andrew guesses 33, Rachel guesses 78, and Brendon guesses 90. Surprise, surprise Brendon comes closest to the amount and wins the POV.

With the target, Brachel, safe for another week Matt's plans come crashing down around him. After meeting with Matt, Andrew decides that his best shot at staying in the game is to secretly align with Brachel, well Brendon at least, but publicly act like he's against them. I'm a little concerned about that plan because Andrew is not the best actor of subtlety and everything he does seems to alarm the housemates.

At the Veto Ceremony, Brendon gives the nominees a chance to argue their case for him to use the POV on them. Kathy says, "Don't use it on me because you will risk putting Rachel up in my place." Short and sweet. Andrew, on the other handk goes for an entire production, rambling on about Brachel and Matt going after each other the previous week and how, now, he's the one that got screwed. At the end of his speech, he boldly asks Brendon to use the Veto on him. Yeah, Andrew that was smooth. If you are confused by how I just wrote that, that is exactly how confused I, as well as the housemates, were when he said it. Brendon chooses not to use the Veto and Matt's nominations hold firm.

Kathy is elated by Andrew's veto speech and decides to let him self-destruct while she flies under the radar. Matt sees right through Andrew's display and concludes that Andrew is definitely working with Brachel. All in all, I really can't gauge who I think is going to go home this week. Kathy has some friends in Ragan and Britney while Andrew is supported by Brendon, at the very least. The Brigade seems to be the deciding factor on this one.
