Maria Torrisi and Scott Hawley from Hell's Kitchen Season 7

Last night, on Hell's Kitchen, Chef Ramsay eliminated two members of the red team, Maria and Scott. Maria was sent home for her inability to get the appetizers out on a barbecue themed menu, while Scott was dragged into elimination, personally chosen by Chef Ramsay, for his inability to live up to what he promised he could deliver in the kitchen. Today, Maria and Scott spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about what made them do the show, what they're like in real life,

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you want to try out for Hell's Kitchen? Were you a fan of the show?
A. Maria: Honestly, I tried out on a whim, just to see what would happen.
A. Scott: I wasn't really a fan of the show and I was approached by a member the production staff to be on. I declined several times and then thought it would be fun to go through the whole audition process but I never thought I'd actually be on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Was Chef Ramsay what you expected? Were you intimidated by him?
A. Maria: Pretty much! No, I wasn't intimidated.
A. Scott: I wasn't either. At the end of the day, it's a tv show. He's an actor. A lot of what he's doing is for the drama and so that people will watch the show. Maria and I both work in professional kitchens. That was far from any experience I've ever had.
A. Maria: Me too!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Why does it seem that nobody in Hell's Kitchen can cook? I'm sure that's not the case!
A. Scott: If I could answer that in a few words... there's a bit of sabotage that goes on behind the cameras. They don't want you to be successful. It wouldn't be fun if everyone cooked great dishes all the time. Not that we didn't make mistakes but, under that kind of pressure, you're gonna make a mistake at some point.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Maria, what is the problem with the red team? Is it because women have a hard time working together?
A. Maria: There is no one able to take a leadership role in the kitchen because no one will allow it. There are all strong personalities in one area and we're all women. Women are catty and mean to each other. No one is ready to take anyone's word into consideration, even if you're right. Everyone is so concerned with themselves that no one wants to listen to what anyone else has to say. I don't know that they'll ever have a true team leader.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You were so funny on the show! Is that really how you are in your everyday life?
A. Maria: That's me! There's no theatrics going on. That's who I am. I wear my heart on my sleeve, I say what I think, and that's what my facial expressions really look like!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Scott, do you think that your confidence was mistaken for arrogance?
A. Scott: Absolutely! Like Maria, we're the same personality type. In my everyday life, I'm laughing and constantly joking. My profession makes me happy. There are things on the show, the way it was edited and the way I was portrayed, that worked in my detriment. At the end of the day, I'm a very humble person. I'm a fun guy, I have fun with life. They didn't show that on the show so much.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Is there anything that you learned from your experience on Hell's Kitchen?
A. Maria: Oh yeah! Believe it or not, I learned self-control, even though it doesn't seem like it.
A. Scott: I suppose to be a little less outspoken. At the end of the day, I am who I am and I'm not going to change. I'm a passionate chef. I love what I do. I take it seriously but I don't take myself that seriously. In watching the show and how it was edited, it's an eye opening experience to see what kind of character you are. Most people that know me would say I'm different than I was shown on tv.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Where are you cooking and what are you up to now?
A. Maria: I am a sous chef for the Hilton in Scranton, PA. We have an a la carte line with room service and a fine dining restaurant. I'm responsible for 90% of production. I have an executive chef over me who handles paperwork. I go to work, I come home. It's the life of a chef!
A. Scott: I'm the executive chef of the Bluebell Café in New York City in the Grammercy Park area. I was cooking as a chef before the show and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life. It's not really a routine. If I can share knowledge, cook good food, and make people smile, then I'm set.
