Hell's Kitchen Season 7

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on the first hour of Hell's Kitchen, Scott and Autumn are put to the test when they are asked to switch teams and step it up in order to keep their place in the competition. The chefs head outside of the restaurant where they are greeted by squealing, dirty pigs. Just when you think Chef Ramsay might just slaughter them one by one, he instead asks them to just grab a pig and look on their collar for an ingredient that they must use in a dish later.

The red team has a tough time grabbing ingredients that will go well together in a dish and are forced to work with everything from blood sausage to prunes. In the kitchen, the teams must present three dishes that all incorporate a pork product with a side dish. Scott quickly steps up and asserts himself with the red team while Autumn is basically ignored completely by her blue team.

When the dishes are presented, the red team quickly throws Scott under the bus for their shortcomings on their first dish. Had the blue team listened to Autumn on her dish with Jason, they probably wouldn't have lost the point on the second dish. Thanks to Jay, the blue team takes another point on the third dish and are named the winners. For their punishment, the red team has to clean the pigs (which is ridiculous). The blue team will head to a spa for a mud bath and to spend the afternoon relaxing.

Before dinner service, the chefs get a rare moment to learn a little bit about each other. Probably things we wish we didn't know such as Holli's love for making sex tapes and Siobhan's former job as a fetish stripper.

Chef Ramsay breaks up the party (thank god) to inform the chefs that Hell's Kitchen is going barbecue, with a new menu for them to learn in a short amount of time. Maria immediately falls apart in her attempt to make hush puppies for the appetizer. Salvatore tries to redeem himself in the front of house but gets yelled at by Chef Ramsay for his poorly written tickets. Little does Gordy know that Salvatore didn't go to school. He came to America to work and help his family when they needed him. Bet Gordy feels stupid now, doesn't he?

While the red team implodes and screams at each other, Fran decides to become the glue that holds it all together and makes sure that dishes get out to hungry diners. Still, Fran can't save the day. Scott overcooks the chicken and works dangerously, leaving the stove door down for someone to trip over. Siobhan almost serves raw meat but Ramsay catches it...and then proceeds to slam it with his hand repetitively.

Things aren't going much better in the blue kitchen, either.  Salvatore has returned from the front of house to cook but has completely shut down and is unresponsive to everyone while Autumn serves ribs that are ice cold.  Jason throws chicken in the deep fryer with the fries and almost comes to blows with Ramsay over it.

Despite their problems, the red team pulls off a win with Fran being named the best of the evening.  She's asked to nominate two people for elimination and chooses Maria and Nilka.  Nilka is none too pleased to be surprised with the news that she may be headed home.  Ramsay is surprised that Scott was not one of the choices and calls him down with the other two.  Nilka is immediately sent back in line while the other two plead their case to stay.  It seems that Chef Ramsay is just no fan of Scott's... but he decides to eliminate Maria instead.
