SunShine Hampton from The Biggest Loser 9

This week, on The Biggest Loser, some of the final five contestants had a ways to go in order to make it to their goal weight and emotions hit an all time high. To make matters worse, there was no yellow line at the weigh in - rather, a red line, meaning that the person who lost the least amount of weight would immediately be sent home. That person was SunShine and today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about the ups and downs of her journey on The Biggest Loser.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Whose idea was it and what motivated you to go on The Biggest Loser?
A. SunShine: It was my idea to try out for the show. I was living in Arizona at the time, so I went to a casting call in Phoenix. My dad didn't come with me and all I had was a picture of him. They asked if we could go to a callback interview and I said, "Sure!" without my dad knowing. When I called my dad and told him, he didn't believe me, he said, "Okay, okay SunShine, how is the weather in Arizona today?" Then I told him, "No Dad, I'm serious," and he said, "Okay, I'll be on the next flight!"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How hard was it going home week 1 knowing that you would have to earn your right to get back on the ranch?
A. SunShine: It was so hard because we had worked so hard to get there and then we arrive at the ranch and, hours later, we were sent home. It didn't seem fair and I was so sad. I wanted to give up right there and just go back to my normal lifestyle. It was my dad that said, "No, SunShine, we can do this!" So the next morning, we hit the ground running. Literally! I went for a morning jog and we found a good gym and kept working hard to fight for our spot back on the ranch!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You seemed very protective of your dad this whole season. Do you think that strengthened your bond?
A. SunShine: I was very protective of him because he has been my rock my whole life. I learned how to be parallel with my dad and do this next to him instead of under him and that is what made our bond stronger.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How difficult was it this week to focus on weight loss with people's emotions, especially Koli's and Mike's, running at an all time high?
A. SunShine: It was difficult but I knew I didn't have time to worry about them because if you do, it's only that much harder to focus on yourself and what you need to do.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What factors do you think contributed to your low number on the scale this week?
A. SunShine: Well first, I know I worked my butt off and if 2 pounds is all the scale wanted to give me, that's okay because I saw the bigger picture. It could have been over training or muscle gain because like I said, I worked harder that week than any other. I was at peace with how I left the game

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How hard was it to be eliminated just before the final four?
A. SunShine: That is probably the hardest and most difficult time to be eliminated because you are so close - you are basically touching final four. But like I said, I was able to see the bigger picture, no one can take away what I was able to accomplish on the ranch. I was there just as long as everyone else so I got full use of the ranch. If it wasn't meant for me to be in the final four, it wasn't meant to be. I have already won my health and life back and you can't put a price on that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's the best lesson you learned from The Biggest Loser?
A. SunShine: The best lesson I learned is to trust and believe in myself. I never did in the past so that is why I always failed. And it is okay if you do fall. Just get back up and don't quit! Now I know I can do anything I put my mind to!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What is your goal for the finale and what have you done to work towards that goal?
A. SunShine: My goal for the finale is to feel the best I have ever felt in my whole life and if $100,000 happens to fall in line with that, I'll take it as an added bonus. But I am working hard to be at my goal weight and feel great by finale time.
