America's Next Top Model Cycle 14

"Hobbits vs. Models"

by Michelle Spigner

With just one episode away from America's Next Top Model's season finale the girls are putting their best foot forward to make sure they come out on top.

It's down to the final five: Raina, Krista, Jessica, Angelea and Alexandra. Krista has had the best photo for the past two weeks and all of the girls are trying step up their game. The girls receive a Tyra Mail that reads, "Who says you can't fit a square peg into a round hole?" The girls travel out to the New Zealand countryside to the Hobbiton set from the Lord of the Rings film. The girls will be doing a photo shoot challenge where they will learn how to pose in a cramped space. The models pose in the door of a hobbit house and will have to get a winning shot in just five frames.

The winner will receive $3000 worth of merchandise from World Designers. Krista and Angelea got the best feedback and as the two most competitive girls in the competition they both really want to win. Krista has the best poses and so the judges pick her as the winner. Angela is really upset at her lost. Their rivalry is also awkward because Krista, her closest friend on the show is turning out to be her biggest competition.

Back at the house the girls receive their next Tyra Mail, "If you want to be a true top model you might have to shadow one." The girls arrive in the New Zealand vineyards. Tyra will be their photographer for the day and explains that they will be challenged to pose in the shadows of different materials like lace tablecloths and fencing and still find their light. As for hair and makeup, all the girls' hair is caked in mud to give them a very natural look.

All of the girls know that they must take a fabulous picture in order to make it on in the competition. Some of the girls did exceptionally well and others did not live up to their potential. Tyra was very excited to shoot Raina but she was not as inspiring as Tyra would have hoped. Alexandra was great for Tyra to shoot and she brought a lot of range in both her poses and her face. Angelea was very lost and Tyra really had to work with her to get a good shot.

The next day the models meet with the judges. Here are their evaluations:

Alexandra- The judges thought she was a trooper on set even though her nose was running the entire time. She was very confident and the judges thought her face was very strong.

Jessica- She tried to look more edgy, but her face still didn't pull through the shadows.

Raina- She looked angry instead of strong. Tyra realizes that she has trouble looking edgy.

Angelea- Tyra struggled as a to photographer her and get her to look soft and pretty

Krista- She achieved a beautiful softness in her face. Unlike the other models she understands shapes, energy and tension.

The judges deliberate and call the girls back. Krista is the first photo of the week for the third week in a row. Runner-up for best photo is Alexandra. Next Tyra calls Angelea. Raina and Jessica are in the bottom two.

The judges think Jessica is very sweet and pretty but very commercial. Raina knows how to evoke couture, but doesn't know how to give edge in her shoots. Tyra calls Raina so it is Jessica who goes home. Tyra tells Jessica to walk away from the competition and prove all of the judges wrong that she can be a bookable, successful model.

Until next week. Pose... Strike It.
