America's Next Top Model Cycle 14

"Let's Dance"

by Michelle Spigner

On tonight's episode of America's Next Top Model, it is down to the top ten models and the girls must prove that they know the ins and outs of the industry and are more than just a pretty face.

The last panel has left Brenda and Ren determined to perform better and prove to the judges that they deserve to be in the competition. On top of struggling in the last photo shoot, Ren has become increasingly annoyed by all the drama and cattiness in the house. She enjoys modeling, but feels that it is her mom's dream and that she may be in the competition for the wrong reasons.

The girls receive a Tyra Mail that reads, "Your fashion knowledge can really take you places or maybe not."  As the girls get ready for the day they find they aren't going to be picked up by their normal limo but instead a large tour bus shows up to whisk them off to the destination. When they climb in they find that the bus is decked out like a game show, with one side decorated in blue and the other in red complete with buzzers and a scoreboard.

Once the girls get settled, out pops Toccara, one of the most memorable and successful previous Top Models. She explains that the models will be broken up into two teams and battle each other in a fashion industry trivia game. The first team to earn five points will receive an extraordinary prize. They will have the opportunity to meet with the creative directors for Bluefly.com and receive a $500 gift certificate to the site. In addition, the model who impresses the creative directors the most will be featured in the Bluefly.com spring campaign and get a $2500 gift certificate.

The red team starts off strong, gaining the first three points. But the blue team comes from behind and matches their three points. The teams are battling neck in neck and it comes down to the final question. The blue team answers first and wins. They heads off to the Bluefly.com headquarters to meet the creative team. The losing blue team also heads off to the Bluefly.com headquarters, but they aren't there for a modeling opportunity, but are there to mark and pack the inventory they could have purchased if they had won.

The creative reps are really impressed by the girls and ultimately pick Simone as the grand prizewinner. They felt she had the total package- the look, the walk, and the right poses.

The next day, the girls arrive at their photo shoot, which is inspired by dance. Each model will be expressing a different dance style in their shoot and will be challenged to combine the style's movements will fierce model poses. The girls have to adapt every style from tap, salsa, disco and hip-hop to the oddest, moshing.

Ren shows Jay that she really doesn't want to be in the competition by her lack of energy on set. Jay explains that he is becoming less and less inspired by her and he thinks the judges will see she doesn't have much modeling ability. She took the fun and funky disco style and brought no energy or creativity to her posing.

Brenda was also a disappointment. It was really her time to shine, because she didn't do very well in the last photo shoot but she struggled to bring focus and style to African dance. The model that came out on top, was the one model all the girls thought would fall flat, Alasia. She had interpretive dance and really brought out her emotions in order to capture some gorgeous shots.

The next day the girls meet with the judges. While evaluating Ren, Tyra flat out asks her if she wants to stay in the competition or if she wants to leave. Tyra has heard about all of Ren's complaining about not wanting to stay. Ren explains that she does, but doesn't like all the drama the other girls have brought into the house. The judges don't buy her excuse but take her answer into consideration as they chose who will go home.

The judges call the girls forward and award Alasia and her interpretive dancing as the best picture of the week. Next they call Angelea, Jessica, Alexandra, Krista, Reina, Tatiana, Simone and Anslee.

In the bottom two are Ren and Brenda. The judges don't think Brenda is edgy enough and often times photographs older than she really is. They feel Ren doesn't express the same passion and drive as the other girls. Ren explains that she thinks that she is in the competition for the wrong reasons, to please her Mom who never paid her any attention until she became a model. Tyra explains that maybe this isn't the best place for her and gives the last picture to Brenda. Tyra wishes Ren the best of luck with her mother and in her future endeavors.

Until next week. Pose.... Strike it.
