Project Runway Season 7

by Gina Scarpa

Last night, on Project Runway, the designers stepped away from all things city and got back to nature. The met with Tim Gunn and Garnier celebrity hairstylist Philip Carreon to find out their challenge: to create a look inspire by one of the four elements - earth, air, fire, and water. One by one, the designers choose their elements and here's what they ended up with.

Earth: Mila, Emilio
Air: Jay, Jonathan
Fire: Anthony, Amy
Water: Maya, Ben

Doesn't it seem like every time the designers go to Mood, Emilio is always running around at the last minute trying to find the right materials to work with?

Tim makes the rounds to see how things are going. Seth Aaron has managed to work the city into his point of view, telling Tim that his design is based on looking out his window at night and how the wind moves through the buildings. Ben is inspired by great white sharks but Tim isn't sure that the judges will understand his point of view. Mila has taken on Earth, which you wouldn't expect her to do, but her top that she has started looks interesting.

Here comes the part of the show where every designer is a critic. Jonathan feels that Anthony has done a really loose interpretation of fire, by using black and gray instead of reds and oranges. Anthony, however, is talking about the after effect of fire, the ashes that remain. It's actually kind of smart. Red and orange would just be expected, don't you think?

Jay is one of my favorite people ever to be on Project Runway. Seeing that Ben was in the weeds and falling behind, he took the time to go over and see if he needed any help so that he would be ready for the runway.

This challenge seems to be more difficult than others because literally no one is ready. Tim checks in on everyone and finds them all sewing instead of putting the finishing touches on. Even as it's time to head downstairs to the runway, people are still working on their outfits.

Tonight's guest judge is fashion designer Roland Mouret, who has worked with Victoria Beckham and Cameron Diaz. The show gets underway and I'm loving Maya, Jonathan, and Emilio have done. I have to say that even though I knocked Jonathan a few minutes ago for criticizing Anthony, I now see what he's talking about. Those loose interpretations aren't really translating on the runway.

Anthony, Emilio, and Jay are all safe. Seth Aaron, Maya, and Jonathan all impress the judges while Mila, Amy, and Ben fall short.

Seth Aaron is in and Jonathan is the winner. Yay! I love him and I'm glad that his work finally stood apart from the rest. That means

Maya is also safe, along with Mila. Ben and Amy are left in the bottom. That hair that Amy used on her design was truly horrific. It looked like the hair was growing right out of her chest. Gross. Ben's suit, though, was poorly made and no one got the shark reference. Amy is in, and Ben is out.

Project Runway airs Thursdays at 10/9c on Lifetime.
