Celebrity Rehab 3

By Jackie Helm

Last night on Celebrity Rehab 3, I couldn’t wait to see if Tom Sizemore would really leave rehab again.  A visit from his girlfriend Monroe triggered an attack from his drug addicted demons.  Tom was ready to bounce but thankfully Monroe convinced him to stay.  She said that she would admit herself to rehab too.  Yeah Monroe and Tom!

In “Process Group”, Dr. Drew and the rehab techs schooled the patients on the topic of “denial”.  An interesting note made by Drew was that addiction is the only disease that you have to convince people that they have.  Kari Ann spoke about her mistrust of people which prompted Mackenzie Phillips to chime in.  She wanted Kari to be more active in the group.  But Kari said that she’s tired and needs time alone.  Mackenzie shot back that Kari isn’t too tired to do her makeup all day long.

Mindy tried to relate to Kari as she shared that her own mother was obsessive over her appearance.  Dr. Drew noted that this behavior is to mask the person inside.  Kari became defensive and stormed out of the room.  Later, Kari walked past Mackenzie sarcastically saying, “I’m somebody’s mother, I’m somebody’s mother”.  Jaws dropped as Mackenzie explained that’s what she said when she was being arrested during the “big bust” that brought her down.

When Mackenzie asked Kari why she was clowning her, Kari replied, “because you’re a bitch!”  Woooow.  More words were exchanged and Mackenzie said, “you’re a rude little girl”.  Unfazed, Kari replied, “you’re an ugly old lady”.  This girl has some cahones.

During “morning meditation”, rehab tech Shelly began by introducing herself as an alcoholic.  Everyone else followed…except for Dennis Rodman.  He explained that he’s not like everyone else, he knows he’ll probably have a drink one day and if he’s going to party, he'll do it like a rockstar.  Dr. Drew was worried about Rodman’s consistent denial and described it as being on an “organic basis”.  He said that Dennis’ denial was part of a dysfunctional personality and was most likely due to damage from alcohol use.

Dr. Drew accompanied Dennis to another doctor who scanned Dennis’ brain.  As expected, Dennis had major evidence of alcohol damage and was warned about future health issues.  Dennis remained non-chalant and stated that he “didn’t care”.  Later during a one-on-one, Drew tried to relay the serious long-term affects of alcohol.  Although, Dennis appeared to be a little more thoughtful, he remained drenched with denial of his alcoholism.

The patients received a personal visit from past rehab patients; Bridgette Neilson, Rodney King, Amber Smith and Jessica Sierra.  Actress Bridgette Neilson did most of the talking and hollered at Dennis Rodman for not paying attending.  Rodney King, who was at the center of the police beatings and riots in the 90’s, suffered from alcoholism.  Model/actress Amber Smith was addicted to alcohol and pills for 16 years.  The visit to the center caused her emotions hit her hard.  Jessica Sierra was an American Idol finalist who feared dying the way her mother did – of a drug overdose.  Everyone had been clean for more than a year and their stories greatly inspired the current rehab patients.  Bridgette took Dennis to the side and agreed that they were not the type of alcoholics that drank from sun up to sun down.  However, they were hardcore partiers when they did drink.  She told him that she had to stop looking at others, take a look in the mirror and recognize why she was in rehab.  Bridgette suggested that Dennis do the same.

Meanwhile, poor Mackenzie Phillips’ dog Max was on his death bed.  His last meal was a pint of ice cream and she was extremely emotional as she made the decision to have him put down.

On day 14, the morning was bright as were the attitudes as the patients.  They realized they only had 8 days of rehab left to go.  Kari Ann made the suggestion that everyone try hard to get along for the remainder of their stint.  Shelly began the morning meditation with stating that she’s an alcoholic and the other patients followed.  History was made as Dennis Rodman said, “Rodzilla, I’m an alcoholic”.  His peers thanked him for the breakthrough and you could even sense a little pride in Dennis himself.

Next week, Mike Starr describes how he once died and Dennis’s wife wants a divorce!  Oddly enough, Heidi is shown on a street corner with a bird on her shoulder and attempting to quit rehab!  Action is in store, check back next week!
