Launch My Line Season 1

“Stressed Out”

Tonight’s episode of Launch My Line begins with Louanna, Roberto, and Galina discussing the errors of Marilyn Crawford’s ways in the last elimination challenge. They also mention their dislike for Merle. I am sure the feeling is mutual from Merle. She seems to have the best things to say in criticism of the other contestant’s lines and her points are always valid. It must be the fashion writer in her. With this in mind, I am making sure to add the criticism that Merle and Thai give to all of the other contestants.

The professionals are asked to select 3 yards of their choice of fabric and they are off to the Citizens of Humanity Wash House in Los Angeles.  Eric is excited, saying that Citizens is “dope” while Merle’s opinion differs in her statement that “denim is for farmers”. The designers learn how to distress fabric which could be a total disaster for Patrick’s red chiffon or Louanna’s (big surprise here!! Wait for it...wait for it…) silk charmeuse.  COH owner and founder Jerome Dahan shows the team around, and they practice distressing.

Once back in the studio, they are told they have to incorporate the fabric they distressed and find inspiration for the rest of their garments from their fellow cast mates.

Louanna picks Kathy as her inspiration. Jim, her expert and she design a pair of jeans to go along with their dusty rose silk charmeuse. Thai, Merle’s expert, is surprised that they have picked jeans. He has had experience with jeans and says that they are very difficult to design in a short period of time. At the runway, the jeans and strapless rose blouse are disappointing.

Kathy picks Merle as her inspiration. Kathy and Emil are using a shiny peach colored fabric and decide to incorporate a bright teal that really pops with the color. Kathy wants to find inspiration by tying in a quill to represent Merle’s writing, but Emil shuts her down, in front of the DSquared2 boys saying he just won’t have the time to design a belt. Merle says she would never wear the outfit while it is still on the dress form and the “butt is hanging out”.

Merle picks Louanna as her inspiration. Merle and Thai use a thicker material for the distressing and turn it into a “drab” jacket that Louanna doesn’t like at all, but underneath pick a burgundy dress that converts into several different looks including asymmetrical which is the inspiration from Louanna.

Eric picks Patrick as his inspiration. Galina and Eric decide to find inspiration in Patrick’s vest and longer dresses but decide to ditch the tie when Dan and Dean say it is too literal. Merle thinks Galina and Eric pull their typical: “throw a piece of fabric on a dress form and cut it short.”

Patrick picks Eric as his inspiration. Patrick and Roberto have a tendency to go more artistic and with the red chiffon they want to channel Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana and Eric’s club and night time vibe. When they come in on their second day they decide to cut the length down to a cocktail dress, and fray the black chiffon they have added. Merle says that the dress is “way too sexual”.

During the judging, Eric is deemed safe. Kathy and Merle are the top 2 with Merle taking the win for the week. Merle concedes that on the model, Kathy’s turned out really lovely. Louanna and Patrick are the bottom two, and the judges say that Louanna’s look is “commercial but not new or creative.” Patrick’s line is “cohesive, like always, but destroyed and not distressed”. Stefani even says that she doesn’t know if the look is “red hot or red light district.”

In the end, Patrick and Roberto are eliminated.  Sluts everywhere cry themselves to sleep.
