Danny Cahill from The Biggest Loser 8

Last week, America tuned in to see the new and improved contestants weight in for the last time on The Biggest Loser season finale.  One by one, each contestant stepped on the scale, impressing more than the one before them until it came down to Rudy Pauls and Danny Cahill.  First, Rudy stepped on the scale and broke a record by losing the most amount of weight by a contestant on the show - 234 pounds!  Right after, Danny broke that record by dropping 239 pounds, over 55% of his body weight, and was crowned The Biggest Loser.  After a busy week, Danny took the time to talk to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about his victory and his experiences on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to try out for The Biggest Loser this season and change your life?
A. Danny: One day, my then 7-year old daughter came into the living room and hugged my huge belly and said, "I want a belly just like yours, Daddy!" I saw her struggling with the exact same things I struggled with at her age. She began closet eating, lying around, watching too much TV, not playing, and gaining weight. I then told her that she DIDN'T want that, and that Daddy was "overweight and unhealthy" and she does not want to be like me! That was when I realized how bad of a role model I was to my kids. I was going to leave them fatherless with a terrible legacy of unhealthy living. My wife had stood by me after gaining all that weight and she didn't deserve to lose me and raise fatherless children. I was robbing them of what they deserved, and it was going to stop!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You connected with Liz right away and had a tight bond throughout. What was it about her that made her a good partner and ally?
A. Danny: I stepped off the plane for the final interviews of The Biggest Loser and the shuttle drove up.  The doors slid open and there was Liz.  I struggled to get on the bus with all of the luggage that my wife had packed for me.  I said "I've got more luggage than a woman!" and she said "Watch it buddy! Look at mine!!"  We had no idea we were both there for the same reason... The Biggest Loser.  As we figured it out, we knew we had a special bond right from the start.  When we rode on the bus and ran the mile, we decided that we did have a bond.  When she chose me as a partner, I was incredibly happy.  I knew that we would be a great pair together! It definitely proved to be a correct assumption.  We both made the Final 4!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Both Bob and Jillian pushed you hard this season. Are you closer to one over the other?
A. Danny: I began wanting Bob.  I loved his style and always said that Bob was my man.  The season began with Bob and me having an immediate bond.  He kept me in the gym after letting the others go.  He told me he would be my "Danny C" and take care of my now, like I took care of everyone else but myself.  He gave me exactly the care and tough love I needed.  Then, I was put on Jillian's team.  I was devastated.  Little did I know that it was for a reason.  Jillian gave me exactly what I needed at exactly the right time!  I fell in love with Jillian and we had a very strong bond.  Going down the stretch, Bob and Jillian were like "two parents fighting over their kid" (as put by Sean Algaier of the Red Team).  They both gave me what I needed to become the Biggest Loser... EVER!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was the toughest part about going on the show?
A. Danny: Leaving my family behind was the hardest part.  They were my life, and it was so hard being apart from them... Are they ok?  Are there problems at home?  If there were, they wouldn't tell me anyway, because they wanted this for me as bad or worse than I did!  That was hard... not knowing if everything was ok or not.  I missed them like nothing else!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted:
How important was your family in supporting you and motivating you to keep losing weight?
A. Danny: Without my wife, my family... I would have NEVER been able to do this! They are champions, and allowed me to be "John Wayne" and go it alone when I needed to, but they were there to support me and push me when I needed it.  All in all, Darci, my wife, was the reason I succeeded at home.  She lost over 60 pounds herself while having to deal with all the worries of homelife!  She is a champion in her own right!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Were you nervous about Rudy going into last night's live finale?
A. Danny: Yes.  I know Rudy.  He is a competitor.  He is a champion.  I knew he would do what it took to give me a run for the money! When I saw him for the 1st time after breaking through the paper at the finale, my heart almost stopped beating! I asked him "Did you beat me?!" I thought he might have pulled off the comeback!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What has losing this weight done for you mentally and emotionally?
A. Danny: I am a confident man again. I know I can do anything I set my mind to just like the guy that my wife first met!  Now I know that the only limits I have are those I put on myself.  I am never putting limits on myself again!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you plan to do now?
A. Danny: I plan to pursue my music, inspirational speaking, and changing livs!  I am going to pay it forward!  I am going to help as many people as I can.  The Biggest Loser game me a dream.  They helped make my wishes true.  Now I plan to do the same for others!  I plan to inspire people to achieve their goals, change their lives, follow their dreams, and get healthy!
