So You Think You Can Dance Season 6

by Gina Scarpa

If there’s one thing that the dancers on tonight’s elimination episode of So You Think You Can Dance can take comfort in, it’s that at least they’ve made the Top 10 and the national tour.  Tonight will be the first time that the dancers really get to find out what America thinks because it’s their vote that will determine who stays and who goes.  The pressure if off the judges, but it must be tough to lose that control over how the competition goes.  It was a strong performance last night and anybody could be in danger.

Things get started with a Tyce Diorio routine, set to Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock ‘N Roll To Me”.  After the commercial break, we’re treated to a pretty amusing video in which season 4 contestant Dominic Sandoval (love him) tests the dance knowledge of Kmart shoppers.  Surprisingly, a decent amount of them knew their dance vocab.

The Top 5 girls are brought onto the stage to hear how America voted.  Ellenore, Mollee, and Ashleigh are safe which means that either Noelle or Kathryn will be headed home.  Then, it was time for the guys to find out their fate.  Ryan and Nathan land in the bottom, leaving Russell, Legacy, and Jakob safe.

The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers perform before the solos and they’re pretty damn ridiculous.  YouTube them.  Now.

Now, the solos don’t mean anything except that it could be their last chance to show America what they can do.  That being said, here’s how the solos went down:
- Noelle dances with a great spirit and joy that has really gotten me to love her this season.  I would hate to see her leave tonight.
- As for Ryan, it’s always tough for a ballroom dancer to be successful in solos but I give him an A for effort.
- There is no denying Kathryn’s technical ability, because it’s pretty damn flawless.  There’s something about her that has prevented me from connecting with her, and I wonder if America feels the same way.
- Nathan seems to really deliver in his solos, but only about 50% of the time in his duets.  If he sticks around, he’s going to need to double that.  Stat.

After a performance by Snoop Dogg, it’s time to find out the results.  Noelle is the first to go (dammit), followed by Nathan (DAMMIT).  What?!  Two of my favorites are gone.  Ughhh… this competition kills me sometimes.

Be sure to tune in when the Top 8 take the stage on So You Think You Can Dance, Tuesday night at 8pm ET on FOX.
