Last night on Dancing With the Stars, Mya
and Dmitry proved they were the ones to beat, placing themsevles firmly atop
the leaderboard. Joanna and Derek came in a solid second, while some missteps
on Kelly and Donny’s parts led to them falling towards the bottom of the
standings.
Personally, I’m pulling for Joanna. Sure,
she isn’t the best dancer, but I think she has the most attitude and she’s the
best to watch. The judges, however, wanted to see Mya’s sexy salsa from last
night, which earned her another perfect score. Len especially liked Mya’s
“tutti frutti booty.” Awkward!
After a quick recap of last night, we
fail to get any results (as if I expected any), but instead the dancers talk
about the other dancers’ strengths. I think we’ve seen three or four variations
of this throughout the season, but I don’t think ABC cares that much.
Now, remember how I talked about
cross-promotion? Next up was a dance from the upcoming motion picture “Nine,”
distributed by an indirectly-owned Disney company, which was great. I’d heard
bad reviews about the movie and that all it had was a bunch of big names and no
talent, but I might go see it now.
After a quick break, Alicia Keys
performs, then the worst time filler I’ve ever seen: a segment about pressure
where the dancers are actually lip-synching to “Under Pressure.” I kid you not,
I had to look closely at the screen to make sure I was seeing correctly. Awful.
But finally we’re to some results! It’s
pretty anticlimactic, though, because it’s just announcing that Mya and Dmitry
made it into the final round. Shocked? I’m not. Leona Lewis comes out and
performs “Bleeding Love” (where do they get all these big stars?), then we find
out the second couple going to the finale is…Donny and Kym!
That really can’t be a good sign for
Joanna, because Donny and Kym had a much lower total score than she did,
meaning it’s all coming down to the fans at this point. I’m not really sure if
Kelly or Joanna have a bigger fanbase, but I’m really hoping it’s Joanna. My 10
calls count!
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani (third-place
from last season) came back and danced to an upbeat disco number, further
proving that she should have won. Maybe my favorites just aren’t meant to win
these types of competitions. That dance segways into a segment about putting
together the choreography for the all-pro dancer numbers.
Finally, we’re down to the results: Kelly
and Louis or Joanna and Derek? The couple eliminated and not making the finals
turns out to be…Joanna and Derek. Really? I find that to be really
disappointing, because Joanna has been on top of her game the whole time. I
understand Kelly has the underdog vote, but still, it’s annoying that Joanna
has to suffer because of that. At least her and Derek get a real final dance as
the credits roll.
Tune in to the Dancing With the Stars
final competition show on Monday at 8/7c on ABC to see the last three couples
dance their hardest for the mirror ball trophy!
