Briarhurst Manor – Manitou Springs, Colorado

TAPS heads out west to visit the Briarhurst Manor, thought to be by some as the most haunted place in America.  The castle or manor was built in 1888 and  housed the Bell family and some believe they’ve never left.  Objects are said to move around on a daily basis and end up in different parts of the castle.  In one room, the walls were said to have “bled” a gooey substance, something that still can’t be explained.  A red headed ghost child is claimed to be seen by more than a few guests along with a young boy playing with a ball.  Shadow figures, voices, and a “skeletal” woman are also commonly seen by workers and guests.  Finally people say they hear children playing up in the attic.  It’s widely believed, by pictures shown to people,  that the children playing are the Bell family children and the woman that is randomly seen is Mrs. Bell.

TAPS co-founders Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes started their investigation on the main floor but noises from the upstairs attic area made them switch course.  They headed to the attic but there wasn’t anyone up their but they could trace the noise to a loose, creaky board at one end of the attic.  Something was walking up in the attic but it wasn’t going to show itself just yet.

Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves did an EVP session hoping to make some type of contact.  Steve was getting some high EMF readings so there was certainly a chance something might happen but nothing grabbed their attention.  Maybe the review of the audio taps would reveal some evidence.

Grant and Jason where in the kitchen area and multiple footsteps were again heard coming from the attic.  Their K2 was going crazy so some energy was being recorded.  Kris Williams and Amy Bruni got called in to do a EVP session and see if they experienced the same noises Grant and Jason heard.  It wasn’t long before they too began hearing the footsteps from above.  They headed up to the attic and found no one up there.   They began an EVP session but did not receive any obvious contact.

Jason and Grant tried to debunk the bleeding walls.  They realized that there was an old bathroom right above this area so they headed upstairs to investigate if something had gone wrong with the plumbing.  As they were entering the bathroom, a girls voice was heard and it stopped them in their footsteps.  They couldn’t find any girl or woman but did find some bad plumbing with a red cleaning agent in the bathroom that very well could have combined to cause a red leakage in the walls below.  Bleeding walls debunked.  They headed to the kitchen area and while there, both heard a females voice, multiple times.  This is becoming a common theme during the investigation.

Kris and Amy began trying to contact the “skeletal woman” often reported being seen on the grounds.  They also hoped to find the red headed child.  The only good scare from them came when a motion detector went off and showered them with a bright light.  Nothing to report on this venture.

Dave and Steve tried to make contact with the “skeletal woman” by enticing her to make a vase move off the shelf, something that has been reported to occur before.  The vase was apparently thrown off the shelf by a ghostly force and witnessed by a large group of people.  Nothing moved and the woman did not show herself.

Outside of what was reported by personal experiences, the team did catch a voice that Jason and Grant did not hear while walking through the manor.  The voice seems to be humming a tune.  The team was able to pick up the little kids or maybe a girls voice on the audio system so it wasn’t just in Jason and Grants head.  Outside of the personal claims and the few items they caught on audio, there wasn’t any additional evidence, and TAPS said that this may be a instance of a residual type haunting.  Jason and Grant seemed slightly disappointed but did have enough experiences to warrant a return visit.
