The entertaining Josh Gates is back with the “Ghost Hunters” to crack a few jokes and pimp his new season of “Destination Truth.”  Any show is better with Josh Gates so we’re all happy is back on the tube.

The Essex County Prison has only been closed for 5 years but it’s already been lost in time and could easily serve as a Halloween hot spot in the upcoming months.  Built in 1873 it looks like it’s been abandoned for 50 years and, like all prisons, is filled with occurrences of death from suicides to murders to inmates setting themselves on fire.  Current caretakers, who obviously are not taking very good care of the prison, often hear footsteps, something or someone banging on bars, keys jangling, and seeing shadow figures.

Grant Wilson, Jason Hawes, and Josh Gates were the first to investigate the empty halls and cells of the prison.  It was long before Josh seemed to have been the first to catch a glimpse of the shadowing figures being reported.  Grant started to get some strong readings on the K2 meter and because there is no power in the prison, the electrical readings could have been from spirits trying to make contact.  Kris Williams was the first to use the team’s new head cam and was sent down to the underground tunnels.  She believed that she was encountering some being and tried hard to have it show itself more clearly but nothing appeared.  Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves took their investigation to the warden’s house and started by heading up to the attic.  Outside of running into some type of bat, nothing much was encountered from the spiritual world.  Grant, Jason, and Josh began walking through an area of cells where one inmate lit himself on fire.  They heard a faucet turn on but no working faucet was available.  Not longer after this, they were all on a chase after another shadow figure but apparently were outrun.

Amy Bruni and guest team member Britt Griffith thought they might have been getting some knocks in responses to questions they were asking but could not really verify the contact.  Josh joined Steve and Tango in the hunt and did begin getting some readings on the EMF detector and began hearing some noises like that of a machine running followed by some footsteps.  They hoped something may have been caught on the cameras or voice recorders.  The team wrapped up the investigation and everyone involved hoped that they captured some real evidence.

Certainly not a evidence filled episode, which is a major disappoint considering the whole show was spent at the prison.  The team talked about some of their personal experiences, mostly of footsteps and shadows, with the client.  The noisy experience Dave, Tango, and Josh was also talked about and everyone seemed to pat each other on the back.  They couldn’t call the prison haunted but did talk about a follow-up investigation, which may be a waste of their time.  No need to download this episode.
