Hell's Kitchen Season 6

by  Gina Scarpa

On tonight’s episode of Hell’s Kitchen, Chef Ramsay decides to test the final nine chefs by putting them through a culinary test.  In tonight’s first challenge, they’ll have to pass the taste test and prove that they have great palettes.  In the first round, Ariel faces off against Van and she’s able to rack up 2 points for the red team.  He was only able to identify leeks (but not before calling it scallions).  Suzanne and Dave face off next and she is also able to rack up 2 points.  Dave thought an egg yolk was squash.

When Kevin and Sabrina face off, he identifies clams as spinach.  WHAT?!  Not only is he a chef, he’s from my home state of Connecticut.  We New Englanders are known for seafood.  That’s gonna cost him a point in my book, though Sabrina thought it was tuna.  In the final round, Amanda goes up against Andy.  He had the chance to take it but thought avocado was… get ready for this… boiled coconut.  Does anyone else wish that they were in this taste test challenge so they could see how they fare?

As the winners of the challenge, the women get to head out for an amazing culinary experience (via limo).  They dine in the dark with Chef Ramsay, which is equally cool and creepy at the same time.  The men, on the other hand, get to spend the day making sorbet by hand.  I’d just like to say that I’ve worked in a few chain restaurants in my day and prep work or side work is literally the worst.  I can empathize…

In tonight’s dinner service, the chefs will be serving a palette cleansing sorbet and it’s the first time Hell’s Kitchen has served it.  Chef Ramsay is totally making this hard on them… unnecessarily… by reading the orders like the Micro Machines guy from the ’80s.  The blue team seems to be falling apart.  The diners are complaining about the risotto coming out, Andy can’t seem to call out orders, and Kevin is stuck on tableside sorbet duty instead of being in the kitchen where he belongs.

In the red kitchen, the women don’t work together and time out their food properly so items are served raw to the diners.  Sabrina is blamed for it and is kicked out of the kitchen.  Sensing that someone needs to step up and save this team, Tennille becomes the woman for the job and impresses Chef Ramsay.  The minute Sabrina is let back into the kitchen, Suzanne falls apart and can't get her food out.  Andy runs out of potatoes and can't make any more dishes.  What the heck is going on in HK tonight?!

This week, the teams are actually able to complete their dinner service so there's a positive.  Chef Ramsay feels both teams are equally weak but names the blue team the winners.  He names Dave the best of the night and says he really proved himself.  Dave is movin' on up to the east side and quickly!  Tennille is also complimented for her stellar service and is named the best of the worst.  She nominates Suzanne (for being too arrogant and not delivering) and Sabrina (for not stepping up to help make the red team successful).  Chef Ramsay also pulls up Amanda and makes all three plead their cases to stay.  Once again, he goes against the winner's nominees and eliminates his choice instead: tonight, that's Amanda.
