America's got Talent 4

by  Arthur Perkins

Hello again 24 hours later. The results show for this week is history. You will want to know what happened. Nick Cannon gets the evening off to a grammar-challenged start with the statement "Don't go nowhere." He also took the stage with white socks and black shoes, a fashion faux-pas that sartorial experts on from NBC should not have allowed. Other than those problems, Nick is OK. He tells the audiences that Penn and Teller are performing their magic (sawing a woman in half down with one obvious and one hidden female contortionists) and LMFAO. I had to turn to Wikipedia for who they are. It states "electro-hop group from Hollywood that consists of DJ / rappers Redfoo and Sky Blu." I don't like their music but I now at least know who they are.

The reason for this show was to cut 12 acts to the 5 moving ahead to the semifinals. Let's get to it:

1. Fab 5 was presented by Nick vs. Beale Street Flippers. Nobody should be surprised that it was the Fab 5 that won.
2. Voices of Glory vs. Eleisha Miller vs. Carol Loo - the announcement of this pairing confirmed that both Carol Loo (an obvious choice to go home) and Eleisha Miller would go home, as neither of them performed strong enough to take down Voices of Glory.
3. Texas Tenors vs. Pete Peterkin - his could have been close, but the Texas Tenors had the edge. Pete goes home. Pretty boy in the middle singled out by Sharon Osbourne for his white teeth (yeah, right) asked the home audience to continue to vote for them in the future. Smart move.
4. SQ Entertainment vs. Alizma vs. Paradizo Dance - I was really glad to see this pairing announced as it meant that Paradizo Dance (note that it is spelled with a z not an s)  was going to move forward before those results were announced. SQ Entertainment and Alizma both had marginal performances and Paradizo Dance was splendid.
5. The final decision was between #5 and #6 to be decided by the judges so they have something to do in a results show. The two acts left for Charles DeWayne and Tony Hoard and Rockin' Rory. I agreed with Piers that if Charles DeWayne went home it would be a great travesty. David pointed out that he was comparing Charles vs. other singers and Tony/Rory against other variety acts. He votes for Tony/Rory which means that Sharon has to make the decision to send someone good home, something she clearly hates to do. She decides to send Tony/Rory ahead. Tony is dumbfounded for several seconds, but his disbelief turns to a huge smile. Charles is stoic and inscrutable but he cannot be a happy camper. As they sometimes say in athletic competitions, "he was robbed".

So now comes the part I call the moment of truth, reconciling what I predicted with what actually happened. Last week I was near perfect. How about tonight?  My prediction was that Charles DeWayne, Paradizo Dance and Voices of Glory would advance. The judges decision knocked Charles DeWayne out. I said Fab 5, Texas Tenors and Eleisha Miller were on the Bubble and Texas Tenors would be the odd man out of this group. It was Eleisha Miller instead. From my not moving ahead group Tony and Rockin' Rrory emerged. I am really glad to see them advance because Tony had a bad night throwing frisbees but he can do much better and will for the semifinals. Even though Charles DeWayne had the stronger act, he is one of several singers so he won't be missed much.
