So You Think You Can Dance Season 5

by Gina Scarpa

The stakes are high on tonight’s elimination episode of So You Think You Can Dance.  The 10 dancers that end up being safe will go on to the national tour once the show is over, a milestone that any contestant who tries out for the show hopes to achieve.  This season has shown that no dancer is safe and anybody could go at any time.  Before they can hear the results though, the Top 12 perform a routine to “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes.   Jeannine, Brandon, and Janette definitely stand out and I’m hoping that they make it safely to the Top 10.  Not my favorite Tabitha and Napoleon routine but I’m still a fan.

Time for the results.  The first dancers on stage are Jason and Caitlin and Brandon and Janette.   It’s not necessarily surprising that Jason and Caitlin are placed in the bottom three but it is too bad.  There is something about them that America is just not getting on board with.  Hopefully, their solos will be enough to get them on the tour.  Next up is Evan and Randi and Phillip and Jeannine.  Randi and Evan are safe, while Phillip and Jeannine must dance for their lives.  Finally Ade and Melissa and Kupono and Kayla join Cat on the stage to find out the results.  It’s Kayla and Kupono who are safe and it’s no shocker after that absolutely amazing Mia Michaels routine that they performed last night.

After the solos are performed, I’m most impressed with Jason, Jeannine, and especially Ade.  He gets a standing ovation and certainly brought it.  I think the tour needs someone like Phillip, since he is the only hip hop dancer on the show, but he could be in trouble because of his lack of technique.  It seems that Melissa or Caitlin could go.

After deliberating, the judges hand down their decision.  They are unanimous in their decision with the girls.  Nigel wastes no time in telling Caitlin that this is the end of the road for her.  The judges are also unanimous in their decision with the boys.  Phillip is also leaving the competition.  Caitlin and Phillip will be on the tour though and it's no surprise.  Tickets on sale soon, people!

Be sure to tune in to So You Think You Can Dance, when the Top 10 take the stage, next week on FOX.
