Len made a good point about this week’s competition.  We’re at the point where the CONTENDERS are weeded out from the PRETENDERS.  Here are my thoughts on tonight’s performances:

 

Ty & Chelsie danced the Jive. Ty looked cute and Chelsie looked fabulous, but he was behind the music and lost steps all the way throughout.  PRETENDER.  Judges Combined Score = 18

 

Shawn & Mark performed the Rumba.  Shawn definitely came out of her shell tonight.  She looked gorgeous, sexy, and killed it.  CONTENTER. Judges Combined Score = 26

 

Lawrence & Edyta performed the Jive.  I’m sorry. Lawrence is a handsome guy and a successful athlete, but a dancer he’ll never be.  PRETENDER.  Judges Combined Score = 22

 

Melissa & Tony performed the Rumba.  What is Melissa “coming back” from?  The top of the leader board????  Excellent as usual!!!  CONTENDER.   Judges Combined Score = 27

 

Lil’ Kim & Derek danced the Jive.  Derek’s choreography was extremely difficult (but brilliant as usual).  Except for her mouth being open again, it was fantastic!  CONTENDER  Judges Combined Score = 28

 

Steve-O & Lacey danced the Rumba.  You can’t watch this couple and even focus on Steve.  It’s impossible to take your eyes off of Lacey.  As for the dance, there really was no Rumba to speak of.  PRETENDER.  Judges Combined Score = 16

 

Gilles & Cheryl danced the Jive.  There isn’t anything that Gilles can’t do.  I didn’t get Len’s remark about it being too “wild”.  They were in black leather get-ups and dancing to what sounded like a biker song for cryin’ out loud!   CONTENDER.  Combined Score = 26

 

Chuck & Julianne performed the Rumba.  I didn’t really agree with the judges on this one.  Sure there were some “hot” moments between Chuck and Julianne, but Chuck didn’t really dance or rumba…he just did a lot of walking around.  It was definitely not a standing-o performance for me.  PRETENDER.  Judges Combined Score = 23

 

The top two couples for this week are Lil’ Kim & Derek (28) and Melissa & Tony (27).  The two couples at risk are:  Steve & Lacey (16) and Ty & Chelsie (18).  In spite of Lil’ Kim’s high score this week my favorites remain Melissa & Tony and Gilles & Cheryl.
