The Real World Brooklyn

The great debate in The Real World: Brooklyn house this season is starting to become: If you are a transgendered person, do you need to tell your roommates or the people that you meet right away?  Katelynn has only revealed to JD, Baya, and Sarah that she was born a man and, only recently, underwent surgery to become female.  As if not being told the truth hasn't made Ryan uncomfortable enough, Katelynn has been strutting around the house in just her underwear.  None of the roomies find that to be appropriate, no matter who it is, and they try to ask her to put some clothes on.  She feels that she should be able to wear what she wants and doesn't see why someone would have a problem with it.

When the housemates find out that an AIDS charity event will be taking place in Gettysburg, PA, they decide to road trip to Ryan's hometown.  With tension building in the house between the guys and the girls, they decide that separate cars would be their best bet.  The boys refuse to give the girls the address in Gettysburg, forcing them to find it on their own.  When Ryan and the others arrive in Pennsylvania, they hop on a tour bus, without waiting for the other car to arrive.  The girls arrive later and decide that they'll go on a tour of their own.

At dinner that night, the tension is put aside as everyone meets Ryan's family.  Afterwards, they headed to the bar area to relax and have some fun.  Katelynn got her eye on a support beam and decide that it would make a great stripper pole, much to the shock and horror of her roommates.  The next morning, at the opening ceremony for the AIDS bike-a-thon, Chet rubs the girls the wrong way when he takes his white flag, which represents someone who has died, and uses it to tickle JD.  Scott makes jokes during the speeches and Katelynn yells at both of them to grow up and show some respect.

Back at the house, Chet and Scott confront Katelynn and Sarah about what happened in Gettysburg.  Sarah and Katelynn feel that the boys showed a complete lack of respect while Chet and Scott feel that the girls are being way too judgmental and opinionated.  Moments later, an already upset Sarah and Devyn end up in an argument with JD over the differences betweeen little girls and boys.  The argument turns personal and Sarah is left feeling hurt while Devyn vows not to let someone she doesn't respect get her down.

Fed up with being kept in the dark, Ryan confronts Katelynn and asks if she was born a man.  The two talk things about and Ryan relays the story back to Scott and Chet.  Scott is hurt that Katelynn wouldn't trust him initially with her story and felt that he would somehoe treat her differently.  With the cat out of the bag though, Katelynn appears to be more comfortable and open with the guys in the house... with the exception of JD.  Baya reveals to Katelynn that JD outed her to the guys weeks ago.  Katelynn decides that she needs to separate herself from the person that initially promised that he would be there for her and have her back.
