On Tuesday night’s show the contestants had to perform by themselves. They had a band behind them with back-up singers, and if they chose to do so, they could accompany themselves with an instrument. Afterwards the judges did not make any comments. They just took notes so that they could whittle down the 72 contestants to 54. At the end of the day the contestants were sent to four different rooms. Three rooms were told they made it through to the next round, and one room was told it was the end of their journey. I was excited that some of my favorites made it through to the next round (Adam Lambert, Jamar Rogers, Danny Gokee, Anoop Desai, Jorge Nunez, Scott MacIntyre, Jasmine Murray, Lil Rounds, and everyone’s favorite funny man, Nick Mitchell). I was, however, flabbergasted that Leneshe Young did not make it through. Why not judges????? Wednesday the final 54 contestants entered a Hollywood Mansion for a whole new format to the final cut round where 18 more contestants were sent home. The judges were perched in chairs made for royalty while they delivered both good and bad news to the contestants. In some cases the judges were still not sure so they paired up similar types of contestants to compete in a final sing-off. How excruciating to stand outside of that room and listen to another person sing knowing you have to go in and do better than them or you are headed home. A couple of my favorites went home because of this approach to elimination (Cody Sheldon and Frankie Jordon). I’m also NOT a happy camper that Jamar Rogers did not make it through. You have got to be kidding me! Yet they kept Tatiana Del Toro? Maybe she can sing if you can get past how irritating she is, but I’m definitely not there yet nor do I think I’ll ever get there! My personal favorites who made it through to the Top 36 are: Anoop Desai,Von Smith, Adam Lambert (he’s my number one favorite), Jasmine Murray, Joanna Pacitti (although I’m not sure how she did with all the lyrics she forgot during Hollywood week), Stevie Wright, Scott MacIntyre, Lil Rounds, Danny Gokee, Jorge Nunez, and the hilarious Nick Mitchell. So next week the real competition begins. May the best man or best woman win!!!!! You can read more of Mary’s television blogs at
