American Idol Announces Top 12 Contestants

Tonight’s show opened with a performance by Blake Lewis which was, as always, very entertaining.

After 36 million votes, another two girls and two guys were sent home resulting in this season’s Top 12 being named.

Becoming part of the top 12 is significant for the contestants because they not only have the opportunity to continue competing for the title, but they also get to perform on the road in the American Idol tour once the season is over.  In addition they get to take part in television commercials throughout the rest of the season.  But most importantly, they get to record their first CD with the other 11 contestants to be sold in stores once the season is over.

Two of my elimination choices came to fruition - Luke Mendard and Kady Malloy.  I’m sorry kids, but you just paled in comparison to the rest of the contestants.  Although I would have chosen Michael Johns and Kristy Lee Cook to be the other two to leave, I somewhat predicted that Danny Noriega might be going home instead.

The shocker of the night, however, was Asia'h Epperson.  This was one of those moments where America confused the heck out of me.  This girl is absolutely dyn-o-mite.  After all she’s been through, not making it into the Top 12 must have been extremely devastating to her.  Couldn’t voters have at least given her the sympathy vote?  It’s not like Kristy Lee Cook is better than her vocally (or charismatically).  Not!

Well I’m expecting the rest of the season to be an enjoyable ride.  My favorite of the Top 12 is David Archuleta, and it’s going to take a lot of work for any of the others to beat him.  But that’s just my two cents…..
