In the second season finale of "American Idol" on ABC, Laine Hardy was crowned the winner of "American Idol." The 18 year-old from Livingston, Louisiana, and fellow Top 3 Finalists Alejandro Aranda and Madison VanDenburg performed in an epic season finale event on Sunday.
"For the first time in "Idol" history, America's live coast-to-coast vote determined the winner of the iconic singing competition series, as all voting took place during the show," says the ABC press release. Hardy gets a record with his title of "American Idol."
Following Hardy's crowning moment, there were musical performances including a special visit by last season's winner, Maddie Poppe. Poppe's debut album, "Whirlwind" just released on Friday, May 17th.
The results were a surprise (and maybe a disappointment) for some as Hardy won over fan and judge favorite Alejandro Aranda.
